Excited to share our latest package design for Kona Brewing Hawaii. This fan favorite, Castaway IPA, is now available in cans for the first time as a limited-release summer beer in Hawaii. The design celebrates the early Polynesian explorers who dared cross the Pacific Ocean and discovered the Hawaiian Islands. Castaway is refreshing and citrusy, the perfect trip to paradise in a can of Liquid Aloha.

Kona Brewers Festival 2024! For this year’s festival we collaborated with the very talented artist, Keanu Wilson (). Keanu’s artwork, “celebrates the essence of life, particularly inspired by the indigenous flora and fauna found in the Hawaiian Islands,” which he captured beautifully for the Festival’s 29th Anniversary.

For over a decade, we’ve partnered with the Kona Brewers Festival and Hawaii-based artists to create art-driven festival design concepts. This cherished fundraiser, which attracts locals and visitors alike, celebrates the love of craft beer, delicious cuisine, live music, and the unique culture of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. Tickets are on sale with all proceeds supporting local nonprofits focused on environment, youth, sustainability, and culture, making a positive impact on the Big Island community. We recently partnered with , a distinguished winery in the heart of the Willamette Valley, to give their website a refresh.

Renowned for their exceptional wines and dedication to the unique terroir of this region, we took this opportunity to not only communicate some new additions at Résonace, but to enhance the user experience in its entirety.

We thrive when creativity meets functionality, when brand strategy expressed thoughtfully from the logo and tagline through packaging and into digital media.

Each project is an opportunity to create momentum for the brand, build sales, and engage personally with their audience. We invite you to experience it for yourself at resonancewines.com and for a full brand journey visit our website.

If your company is thinking about how to position or re-position itself in your category, the place to begin is with a team that knows what it takes to stay growing and differentiated, which is where we come in. Every business decision is a brand decision, so if your brand or someone you know is wants to connect, please contact us at [email protected]. Thanks!

Does Kona Big Wave Have What It Takes to Become the Next Big Lifestyle Beer? 02/07/2023

This article in VinePair was full of surprises about the market success of Kona Big Wave with some eye-popping numbers. "Sales have doubled over the last five years," and Kona has been outselling ABI's top craft beers in its portfolio, like Golden Road Mango Cart, by 20%. 29 years after the brewery and brand launched, Kona’s star is still rising.

It’s rewarding to be able to prove the business case for investing in the brand and the package design. Simply put, it will generate growth and investment returns when done well. Kona Brewing Co has been with our agency since 1994. We named Big Wave Golden Ale and created the package design program for all beers seen on shelves today. This past decade of growth has been remarkable; and now Kona has risen to a new level. As we hand off the baton, I will be eager to see how ABI transforms Kona Big Wave into a lifestyle brand that rivals Corona and Modelo. Hopefully, it will include Kona Brewing Co.’s loyal fans who have been integral to the brand’s waves of success.

In a beautiful twist of fate, we are still leading the design and brand strategy for Kona Brewing Co in Hawaii. With the completion of a new state-of-the-art brewery on the Big Island in 2022, the full line of Kona beers will be packaged in Hawaii once again. Almost three decades later and we have found ourselves back in the heart of where it all began with new opportunities for a tried and true beloved brand…we’ll cheers to that.

As pioneers in probiotics and healthy food that tastes good, it’s no surprise that Nancy's Yogurt was the first Oatmilk Yogurt in the US market. Fast forward five years and plant based has become a leading category in grocery. It was time to revisit our original designs for the brand and re-establish Nancy’s as the premier Probiotic Oatmilk Yogurt consumers can trust and feel good about.

The new package design needed to strike a balance between playful and premium, eclectic and informative.

We looked to the brand’s roots in the health food and counterculture movement of the 60s for inspiration, starting with a bold and friendly typeface that, when paired with their logo, gives them greater visibility at the shelf. A new illustration style for the brand captures the naturalness of their ingredients and evokes a premium taste experience for the consumer, and simplified key messaging quickly communicates at the shelf why Nancy’s has been trusted and loved by consumers for over 60 years.

The new look for Nancy’s Oatmilk celebrates the brand's heritage while connecting to modern consumers looking for good food that’s good for you.

Family-grown in Williams, Oregon, Siskiyou Sungrown is the product of Cedar and Madrone Grey’s vision to bring natural, therapeutic remedies to all using cannabis.

However, in an industry that’s constantly growing and becoming rapidly de-stigmatized, it can be hard for cannabis consumers to know what goes into the array of different products available—let alone what makes one better than the other.

Our team clarified Siskiyou’s brand position and messaging within the category to emphasize their conscientious, pioneering and intellectual approach to cannabis farming.

From our logo evolution that champions their home at the base of the Siskiyou Mountains to custom illustrations and color system that emphasizes the biodiversity, flora and fauna of the region, to a newly developed icon library calling attention to key product attributes, we designed this brand to educate, delight and stand out– no package fold was left unturned.

Even with a product of increasing ubiquity as laws and consumer opinion continue to evolve, it’s still possible to differentiate. Leveraging the people, the place, the process and all the details surrounding a brand brought truth, authenticity and meaning to its identity. Products are more than what’s on the box—they’re about everything that led to having that box in the first place.

A Kona classic has returned! After many years and waves of requests, Pipeline Porter has made its way back onto shelves for a special limited-release.

First launched in 2006 we designed the original package as Kona Brewing Co.’s first seasonal release. The beer name and design was inspired by Oahu’s iconic Pipeline surf break, the roasted flavors of Hawaiian-grown coffee steeped into each batch, and a vintage, travel postcard style that transports you to the islands. An instant hit, Pipeline Porter inspired a redesign across their seven beers. The redesign was a success, growing sales and brand recognition for Kona Brewing Co. ever since.

This year, the iconic fan favorite has relaunched in six packs for a limited time. To honor its legacy we leveraged our original illustration while seizing the opportunity to create a new platform for this limited release beer called, “Kona Classic,” speaking to the loyal and longtime fans of the brand, while inviting newcomers to share in the history of Kona Brewing Co.

To see more of our work with Kona Brewing Company over the past two decades, visit our website, then head to your local store and grab a six-pack of Pipeline Porter while it lasts!

In celebration of Oregon Wine Month we have pulled together a retrospective of a handful of incredible Oregon wineries we’ve worked with over the past 30 years. Starting with Ponzi in 1994 to Résonance Wines today, each winery has a unique story to tell, which we sought to translate into their brand, identity and packaging. Please enjoy this look back at some of the best Oregon wine country has to offer. Visit our website for more.

As Résonance Wines portfolio continued to grow, so did their need for a defined wine tier system for special direct to consumer offerings to complement their single vineyard and estate wines. Each, distinctly different, these wines represent the highest quality and most unique expression of their Oregon vineyards.

Choix du Coeur translates to “the heart’s choice,” and is a selection of the winemakers, Jacques Lardiere and Guillaume Large’s, most loved barrels from the Résonance and Découverte Vineyards. A cousin to the single vineyard packages, the simplified tree line and rich deep colors overlaid on pearlized paper evoke the feeling of a moonlit night.

The Memory Block wines are a pure presentation of the three Pinot noir clone varietals planted at Résonance Vineyard, and serve as a record of how each clone expressed itself year-over-year within each block. We drew inspiration from the periodic table, also an expression of parts that make up the whole, which you see in the single R and square label. Knowing they would be hand-sold in the tasting room to an educated wine consumer, we leaned into a sleek and minimal label that encourages a sensory experience.

The result of this expanded portfolio is an elegant and defined brand design system that tells the many facets of Résonance’s winemaking story. This marketing and design strategy work together, delivering a unique experience while also growing sales incrementally. Visit our website for the full case study.
