"I've had the privilege of learning so much throughout my 82 years, and one lesson really stands out to me - the value of education. I pursued my passion for landscape architecture and photography by earning a degree and taking classes to better my skills in photography. Capturing moments and people through my photography has always brought me joy, and I've had the opportunity to volunteer with various nonprofits. Recently, I've been working with Tualatin Hills Parks and Recreation, photographing their events since the start of COVID. It's been a rewarding experience, as I've completed 115 projects with them so far.
My love for photography truly began with my dad, and over the years I've taken classes to enhance my skills. Despite facing a major setback from a life-changing accident a decade ago, where I broke my neck while trying to capture the perfect shot, I'm grateful to have been able to return to my passion. Rebuilding my photography equipment collection wasn't easy, but it was worth it. Now, I have a variety of gear in my apartment, including 15 lenses for one of my cameras.
Living at Laurel Parc Senior Living Community for the past eight years has been a new chapter for me, following my doctor's recommendation after struggling to manage at home post-accident. Originally from Wisconsin, I've also lived in New England and Boston before settling here in 1974. While my career previously focused on developing locations for transmission engines, photography has now become my full-time passion.
If I could share one piece of advice based on my life experiences, it would be to pursue what brings you joy. Finding something that keeps you engaged and fulfilled, like my photography, is key to living a long and satisfying life."

"I spent many years teaching kindergarten and some time with third graders after studying early childhood education at Oregon State University. That's also where I met my husband. Our story began through mutual friends from my sorority and his fraternity. I have such fond memories of my sorority days; everything felt so social back then. My husband and I were always quite active, and we used to play a lot tennis together. Nowadays, I enjoy spending my time on crafts, particularly making and giving out cards, which brings me so much joy.
Ever since my husband passed away and my grandkids went off to college, the house started to feel a bit too big and quiet. Thankfully, a friend recommended Laurel Parc to me. She was thinking about moving to Laurel Parc herself but ended up buying a house instead! I've really embraced the lifestyle here at LP. There are so many activities to participate in, and I've found a wonderful sense of community through our book club and the food gatherings. It's also great that my daughters live nearby, so I get to see them often.
One memorable trip Laurel Parc has taken me on, was when we went to the beach. We ended up getting stuck in traffic on the way home and tried to take a detour through a campground. Through trial and error, we eventually wound up at the Tillamook Creamery. Even though it was late, we were all laughing and enjoying each other's company, which made the experience unforgettable.
Living here at Laurel Parc, surrounded by friends with opportunities to keep exploring and enjoying life, reminds me daily to 'be yourself.' It's advice that I live by and like to share with others. I truly feel grateful to be living out my life here at LP."

"We're both originally from San Francisco and attended the same Catholic school growing up. For the past seven years, we've been living in the Laurel Parc community and really getting involved in the social scene here. Angelo runs a Wii bowling league and leads a group called the Romeos to keep everyone active and connected,β Gerry says.
Angelo shares, βI come from a big Italian family and was raised by my grandparents. I never went to college, but I've always been one to jump on new opportunities and have carved out a successful career for myself. Overcoming my childhood stutter was a big personal accomplishment, and it has helped me become a great salesmanβa fact my wife loves to point out. I remember one time I was in a store and saw a young boy who was struggling with a stutter, just like I used to. I approached him and shared some tips and tricks that had helped me in the past, hoping it would make a difference for him. This memory is dear to me and my wife, as we both find joy in assisting others. We really treasure the community here at Laurel Parc and see it as an extension of our family. We love how open and involved everyone is and it truly enhances our lives.β

"My childhood in Kansas was filled with simple joys like playing in creeks and learning life lessons from unexpected encounters. One time on July 4th, my friends and I ended up accidentally throwing our fireworks under a police car. Surprisingly, the officer was incredibly kind and understanding about the situation, which really left a lasting impression on me. Later in life, I learned a valuable lesson from observing my granddaughter achieve success in mechanical engineering. She had demonstrated the ability to challenge traditional norms and highlight the unique perspective that women can bring to the industry. More recently, my wife made some amazing financial investments that really paved the way for our retirement. Sadly, she passed away after battling a smoking-related illness, showing me how life can take unexpected turns. Moving to Laurel Parc after my stroke in 2020 brought me closer to a caring community and taught me the importance of staying open and mindful. The best advice I have ever received? 'Keep your eyes and ears open, and your mouth shut.' Listening more and speaking less has helped me navigate life with a deeper understanding of others." βHal
