π Congratulations to Muyoka Mwarabu! π
We are incredibly proud to celebrate Muyoka Mwarabu, one of our esteemed scholars and grant recipients, who has been named a Portland Business Journal 40 Under 40 Award Winner for 2024! π
Muyoka's journey with the Black United Fund of Oregon began years ago as a scholar, and we are honored to have been a part of her journey as a community leader. In 2021, she founded the nonprofit Flame's Promise, "a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering the most at-risk African-American young women."

π Workplace Giving Program Member Spotlight: Coalition of Black Men (COBM) π
The Coalition of Black Men (COBM) is making a powerful difference in the lives of African American youth through their "Dream Bigger" mentoring program. By leveraging financial resources, community relationships, and professional mentors, COBM supports over 60 Black boys and other enrollees annually across four Portland Public Schools (PPS) middle schools.
Students, parents, and schools praise COBM for its mentoring and vision board approaches, which provide essential guidance and support. COBMβs commitment to making education relevant includes an end-of-year ceremony that celebrates and awards students for creating a vision of their lives through a 12-step process.
