WHO WE ARE is an exhibit with two distinctive styles. The images in the main gallery originated from a series called WE THE PEOPLE referring to the US Constitution that we are all equal. No body is better than the next, but still there are some who continue to belittle and undervalue others. By integrating races, genders and ethnic groups these painting and drawing there is a depiction of a unity to demonstrate a bond between us all. As the concept evolved it has become a needed global unity and makes a statement about what we all want; respect and compassion for who we are.
The images in the south gallery have a sub-title BEYOND INTRACTABILITY, suggesting the out of control scenario of who we could become. No matter our background we are influenced by everything around us, Fashion, Religion, Education, Our Peers, Television, The Internet and Our Subliminal Consciousness. Giving us options to decide who we will be. Then the option to change again and again and again. In the images there is an awareness of these options making us think or not about the variety of choices we have to make ourselves into who we are.
CLOSING SOON - come down to the Pearl and see this thoughtful photography exhibition. Hours: 12-5, Thurs-Sat.
