Harbor Arts Jazz Night 1997-
In 1982 Mike Smith, Peter Rice, Dick & Jill Gallant, Seacoast Council Of Tourism, started The annual Portsmouthh Jazz Festival on Ceres Street. When it ended Tommy Gallant & David Seiler started Seacoast Jazz Fest at Presott Park, and asked myself & The Harbor Arts Board ( listed) to start a Jazz Headiner Fest going at the same time ( they had a great idea & man we had fun!
The board members and supporting cast ( a hundred not mentioned) annually raising money to support the seacoast’s arts, education, nature, & Harbor Arts Museum .
Always a big thank you for our ground setting Jazz Night cast who volunteered, donated product, money and all were trouble makers!
It was Joe Lavano who recommeded we give support to our Portsmouth High School Music Dept.. & also recommended we have PHS Jazz Quartet be the opener..
Kent LaPage a force on our Harbor Arts board helped start our fundraisers for Peirce Island and the schools jazz dept .
We had new headliners each year including: Headliners Joe Lavano, Dianna Krall, Eddie Palmeiri, Ahmad Jamal, Spyro Gyra, John Scofield w/ Brad Mehldau, Arturo Sandoval , Cassandra Wilson!
Each board member made this all possible and a sell out each and every year!
