One year ago today, Chef Martha and I received the keys to our space in Portsmouth, NH, and started a 35-day buildout to turn a large dream into a small reality.

Thought we'd give you a peak inside our clubhouse and craziness and share some of this journey with you all!

The Plate originated from an idea in 2018. We searched for a location as far as the Cape all the way to Maine over those years. We wrote menus, designed logos, and finally, in the spring of 23, we found it, a small little 40+ seat space nestled in the West End of Portsmouth. We always wanted a small space, something we could run and actually interact with our guests. We knew the profits wouldn't be as impactful, but we also hoped to give something back to the industry that we hadn't seen present in it for years.
A space where the guests would have an opportunity to speak and share their experiences inside the restaurant with both the owners and executive chef in person. A space where employees felt valued and appreciated but were also held to high standards so that they would feel proud of all their weekly efforts!
We also wanted to show our kids what it meant to chase your dream. To work hard, push hard, and be proud of what you do...
One year of owning our own family run business has been filled with surprises on both ends of the spectrum. But it really has given us a chance to reflect something positive to the community, and for that we are thankful!
So here we are, one year later, still driving at these goals, still pursuing this dream. Stop in and say hello, we're pretty easy to find... We are either holding an infant, chasing a toddler, helping a middle schooler with homework, or smashing a delcious burger into a griddle.
