Dear Students and friends,
It is with great sadness that I must resign my role as faculty advisor for the SSA at TCC Portsmouth. I will be moving in a few weeks and will be no longer be teaching at TCC. I plan to still stay involved with the SSA as a supporter, but if the group wants to continue in the fall, you will need to find a new faculty advisor.
It has been my great pleasure to have been part of founding this group and seeing the positive influence it has had in the community.
I wish you all the best!
~Ann Hubbard

I added a cover for us, but if you don't like I will remove!
This recent experience with my Mom, and several experiences with hospitals, care centers, and assisted living, has convinced me that one thing that is really needed is a non-faith based group that is willing to visit with the elderly. There are some faith groups that do that kind of thing, but if you are a non-believer, like my Mom, that can be a bit awkward.
Any sort of care place has staff, but they aren't interested in just sitting and talking with residents. Even at the best places, like where my mom is now, they are too busy for that. Yesterday I found a resident quietly crying in her wheelchair, within 10 feet of 4 staff members, and they were just ignoring her. I stopped to help her--she was upset because her blouse was stuck on the arm of her chair. I helped her and chatted for a few minutes and she was very grateful.
Just because people can't move or communicate very well doesn't mean they don't get lonely. We might want to think about doing something like that as a volunteer opportunity. I'll bet there are lots of places that would be welcoming to volunteers just willing to hang out with people.
~Ann

Our plan to take the Danish students out to Cookout for milkshakes has been approved! We'll have vans and I will have one and Professor Bill Connor will drive the other.

I hope you guys are enjoying your Labor Day weekends!
I felt like seeing if this conversation will go far
I'm gonna ask you all a question. What atheistic or theistic belief set do you find the most modern or appealing? Post in the comments or you could message and I'd be happy to hear about it :). ~ admin ggc2834
