Welcome to the Dutchess County Clerk’s Office page.
We are happy to report that our staff just completed the fixes required for all Dutchess County DMV offices to be open and operational tomorrow morning. Thank you for your patience on Friday and tomorrow as we anticipate a busier than usual day!
DMV offices in Dutchess County are currently unable to process any transactions due to the global computer issues. We will provide an update once we hear from NYS DMV. The Clerk's office is open.
It was a beautiful day for a Naturalization ceremony. Thanks to Locust Grove for hosting our 53 new citizens as they were sworn in by County Clerk Bradford Kendall. DC Family & Community Services Commissioner Sabrina Jaar Marzouka and DC Family Court Judge & Acting Justice of the Supreme Court, the Hon. Tracy MacKenzie provided inspirational remarks to our new fellow Americans. Always a favorite day for us - Congratulations to all! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Thanks Tony. The Clerk's Office is happy to celebrate Donate Life MOnth.
For many years, I have been a blood donor. It was a privilege to be able put forward a proclamation at our board meeting declaring April National Donate Life Month (NLDM) in Dutchess County. NLDM is an initiative to encourage Americans to register as organ, eye, and tissue donors to honor those that have saved lives through the gift of donation. This month, let us all recommit ourselves to giving the gift of life!

Dutchess County Clerk Brad Kendall has announced the Department of History recently completed Phase 9 of the Ancient Document Online Archive project, bringing the total number of handwritten manuscript pages available online to 167,000. These records, dating from 1721 to 1889 constitute the surviving fillings of the Dutchess County Courts of Common Pleas and General Sessions.
Clerk Kendall said, “This ongoing effort not only preserves the historic record but makes our early history available to researchers and genealogists world-wide. I’m grateful for the continuing support of New York State Archives in this multi-year project.”

Always nice to get feedback on our naturalization ceremonies. The ceremony referred to in this letter from NYS Bar Association President, Richard Lewis, was held in September in honor of Constitution Day. Naturalization days are special!

Last weekend, the County Clerk stopped by the CSEA Dutchess County Local 814's annual bowl-a-thon and chatted with some co-workers. The bowl-a-thon raised money for Special Olympics New York. County Clerk Brad Kendall hosted the Town Clerks of Dutchess County at his office today. The clerks were given a tour of the Record Room and County Historian William Tatum shared information on the Archival Imaging Initiative. The initiative is a collaborative imaging project which provides municipalities with scanning services for their oldest records, allowing expanded access to the documents while preserving the originals.
Now is a great time to get your REAL ID.
After May 7, 2025, you will need Real ID compliant identification to board a domestic flight, enter military bases and certain federal facilities. You can easily upgrade your license, permit or non-drivers ID to a REAL ID by visiting your local DMV. To help prepare you for your visit and find what documents you will need to apply for a REAL ID you can utilize the DMV document guide at dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/get-your-real-id-enhanced-document-application-pre-screened
We recommend scheduling an appointment to speed up your DMV visit. Walk-ins are welcome but may need to wait longer for service. To schedule an appointment with any Dutchess County DMV office, please visit www.dutchessny.gov/dmv .
The Archival Imaging Initiative continues in partnership with the Town of Stanford!
When in-person programming ground to a halt in 2020, County Clerk Kendall introduced the Archival Imaging Initiative to continue providing essential services to our Dutchess County communities. Utilizing a large-format Zeutschel scanner, this program provides free imaging services to municipal governments and historical societies to preserve delicate historical manuscript records, focusing on bound records. So far, the County Clerk’s Office has partnered with Millbrook, North East, Pine Plains, and numerous local historical societies to preserve and enable better access to their oldest records.
Our partnership with Stanford Town Government begins with imaging their oldest book preserving records of births, deaths, and marriages. The physical original suffers from damage to the binding and is exhibiting tearing along many of the outside edges of its pages. The digital images produced by the County Clerk’s Office will enable the Stanford Town Clerk to grant public access to the information contained within this volume without having to open the book and flip through the pages.
We will continue our project with Stanford by digitizing other town records including the earliest municipal minutes and records of poor relief, and work with town government to make these historic documents available online.
