We would like to take a moment and thank everyone who came out today for the Dutchess County PT Civil Service Exam. Congratulations to all who successfully completed the exam. Good luck as you move forward in your journey of becoming a law enforcement officer.

We would also like to thank the area agencies who sent PT instructors to help administer the exam, as well as the DC Human Resources Staff for their assistance. It was great to see multiple jurisdictions working together, setting a good tone for the day, and providing a fine example to our future law enforcement candidates.

For those that were unsuccessful, remember to use this as a positive learning lesson. We saw a lot of great potential out there and hope you all stay motivated for the upcoming exam believed to be coming in the fall of 2024. We will continue our written exam and PT prep courses in the months to come. We hope to see you all back out there soon!

Thank you, again!

On behalf of Sheriff Imperati, the DCLEA instructors, and other area agencies that assisted, we wanted to take a moment and say thank you to all those who took advantage of the free PT training sessions we have been hosting.

These trainings had been ongoing since October and hosted by the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, in conjunction with several local police municipalities. In total, the trainings were utilized by more than 150 area residents and had an average class size of 12-15 participants for each session.

It has been an honor and a privilege to watch the personal growth of so many during this experience. While we are excited to train the next generation of local law enforcement, we are just as privileged to have provided inspiration to the attendees on their personal and professional journeys in life. Take these skills acquired and continue to be better versions of yourself.

To all those taking the upcoming Dutchess County PT exam, we wish you all good luck!

Our hearts are with all Law Enforcement Officers and loved ones impacted by this tragedy.

TWO LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY:

On Sunday, April 14th, 2024, at about 7:07 p.m., Syracuse Police Officers encountered a suspicious vehicle in the area of Emerson Avenue and Hamilton Street. Police officers attempted to stop the vehicle, however, the driver refused to stop and fled the area. The officers lost sight of the vehicle but were able to record the license plate information.

Officers checked the vehicle registration and determined the registered owner resides on Darien Drive, in Liverpool, New York.

Syracuse Police responded to the address, along with members of the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle was found to be parked at a residence on Darien Drive.

Shortly after arrival, the police officers and sheriff’s deputies were encountered by an armed male and an exchange of gunfire followed.

One Syracuse Police Officer and one Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputy were struck by gunfire. The armed suspect was also shot.

Both law enforcement officers were transported to Upstate University Hospital where life saving measures were conducted. The Syracuse Police Officer and the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputy succumbed to their injuries.

The suspect was also transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the two law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty, as well as with their brothers and sisters in law enforcement who are suffering in the wake of this tragedy.

We thank the community for their outpouring of support.

Sheriff Kirk Imperati and the members of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office extend our deepest condolences to the members of the NYPD, family and the friends of Officer Jonathan Diller.

Yesterday, approximately at 5:58pm Officer Diller and his partner conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle which had illegally parked in a bus lane in Far Rockaway. During questioning, a passenger within the vehicle fired a gun at the officers, striking Officer Diller in the torso below his bullet-resistant vest. Officer Jonathan Diller was rushed to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to the injury, and passed away.
