This was actually quite fun to do and pulled me out of my comfort zone! from designed this children’s pediatric dentist office in Powell. It’s the same office I did airplane runways on some walls. This is the children’s waiting playroom! Clouds on the ceiling! Fun! Fun!

Here’s the photos of the cornice board, it started out white. However, that’s the base color that I chose in addition. To get several different looks the base color is just as important as the stain colors I choose. And let’s talk about that brush that I used setting shears on to get it to how I wanted it 😂.. it works perfectly!

Edit: it’s actually not quite as red as it appears in the two photos on my counter. It actually looks closer to the bowl photo.

This was a very small job but made a big impact in the clients kitchen. It’s a cornice board that goes over the window at the sink. It was white and boring so we spruced it up to make it look like different wood to complement a bowl on her counter! Photos to follow!

This was two pieces in a bedroom that
I made over for a client from KP Designs Group designers kellyann_gerson_designs and michelle_mybell1. Such a beautiful home they did together!

Another black copper liquid metal! When I apply liquid metal, I usually add some sort of texture, but since this table had the rough wood texture already, it was a perfect example of something to redo with liquid metal.

Let’s talk liquid metal! This is a project I did with black copper liquid metal. I completed a course a year or so ago learning how to do liquid metal. I’ve got different metals that come in a powdered form that I mix with a binder, I can apply them to a variety of projects. It’s very durable too! I’ll be using a lot more metal in the future!

This was such a fun makeover for me! The client wanted to really dress up this barrel ceiling, which goes from their entry into their kitchen and family room area. I had to smooth out the textured ceiling that it had. And then apply plaster bricks. I tinted the bricks and then applied another layer of a different plaster, making them look more rustic and used a tool to get a linear line in the bricks. This is a one of a kind finish! It really makes a wonderful accent in their foyer!

This client wanted some thing gender neutral for her office for future resale purposes. But she still wanted something elegant and pretty. So we did wall silk with her original wall color and a herringbone pattern. She absolutely loved it! While silk can’t be tented a variety of colors, but it will also show the wall color underneath in this technique so there’s many options.

This was a fun one because of where it started! from KP Designs Group is the designer for this home. Client loved the shape of this piece and where it fit so we updated it!

Photos from Fauxfilled Finishes by Kim Magee LLC's post 07/02/2024

Just to prove you can literally paint or plaster anything to give it a new look! I did use plaster on these to get the look on the inspiration photo. I’m super happy with the results!

Finally going to post Before and Afters from 2023 and 2024… been a long time coming. I’m trying to take a break to get organized.!

This is a bedroom, focal wall done in wall silk in a herringbone pattern. Then we did the Furniture which was a four piece in the bedroom. I also painted the mirrors on the wall. They were the right shape but the wrong colors so I turned them into a metal look instead of wood. Even the speakers were a reddish color so I painted those a matte black! I also did the lamps on the table and I will post that as that was a fun makeover project!

I haven’t had time to even post most of 2023’s jobs 🤦🏼‍♀️..but this weeks job is such a before and after I have to share this one I finished today! I loved incorporating metallic foil into the design as a door contrast! Many many patterns and colors can be chosen. I had to paint and stain the piece prior to painting it black for a rubbed through effect.

This was a fun one! And its a huge room! I actually did faux finish the green and orange walls to soften them a little bit but then the blue wall the client originally wanted a mural, but she wanted something that would be for all ages as well as both boys and girls so after some research, I came up with Legos! Makes me feel like I should step up my grandparent game 😂. This is a room for grandchildren and has ball pits and jump houses and hanging swings and everything you could want. Grandparents plus!! To make the 3-D Lego look. I glued 2 of the 6.5” circles together and painted them and glued them to the wall. What a fun space!!

I am definitely not a muralist in any sense, but have always been willing to make a sample. And the sample was accepted so I was up for the challenge. The talented designer .omalley123 found a way to put a boy and a girl with built-in bunkbeds in this room and fade from blue to teal to purple, and and make it all come together so beautifully! I thought we were just doing a few stars a couple of clouds around the clear sky by the moon but once I started putting stars on the client, one of them everywhere! She even wanted two different styles ! The client loved it so much the last photo is one she took and sent me when she and her kids came home and laid on the floor together and stared at the ceiling 😍❤️I promise it looks better in person. Photos of faux finishes don’t always work well.

One of my favorite designers from KP Designs Group Erica Kadlec got to be the client twice on this one! I met Erica when she was getting married and her parents gifted me to paint this table and the chairs as a wedding gift for her. Several years and two little boys later she decided she wanted to bring it back to its natural look and knew it was a really big job. Luckily I have a sander that has a vacuum extractor so I was able to sand this down in her home and re-stain it a bit to make it look beautiful and rich. In the last photo, I want you to notice the color difference. Because this is oak, it really brought out some red tones. But I was able to tint the topcoat with some green to make it a little ashy, much less red, as you see in comparison and much prettier brown color. I have a lot of tricks in my tool bag!

10/31/2023

Get ready...it's going to be a before and after kind of day. I know it's not good to post them all at once but I've got some finished projects almost a year old I haven't posted yet 🤦‍♀️🤣...I just have to get it done 😜

I redid about 6 pieces of framed art for this same couple. These are just 2 of them. I made them match and one is already hung in their bedroom. It was much less expensive than reframing they told me! I used several layers to achieve this look starting with metallic foil, and then metallic glazes. They were thrilled.

When you have some thing that you need to fit in the space, like a foosball table, you do a technique called a re-stain without stripping off the existing finish. I made this look more like walnut, and it goes so nice in their lower level family room. Can’t say it wasn’t tricky! I had to do the inside by the rails as well, but it turned out really nice and now it looks like a piece of furniture that belongs! Emily Hough-O'Malley from is the designer of this home. It’s the same one as the large mirror and bedroom furniture. Just a couple of more pieces to share soon!

Bedroom furniture makeover, metal and hardware! Photos start with before photos . Designer Emily O’Malley from KP Designs Group designed this entire exquisite home! It’s just stunning. I’ll have more items to post from this home coming up!

Painting something you already on that’s already the right size and shape is a big cost savings. Plus you get exactly what you want! Painted this mirror to look more similar to the brass pulls on the furniture piece! Success! KP Designs Group and Emily Hough-O'Malley

We took some boring home office walls and did a timeless color of Wallsilk in a herringbone finish and a vertical stripe. I even used the original paint color to save $ for the client. Love it! Check out the video in the comments.

I did a new brick method for me! It’s similar to a schmear but I actually filled the grout (which was recessed back at least a 1/4”). I used a masons bag and some others tools to get the look of her inspiration photo (minus covering of some bricks) and she loved it!! A great makeover without “covering up” the brick or painting it!

A beautiful home got some new updates, remember the fun stone busts I did a while back? It was this home! I'm late posting all of my work. Deneen from KP Designs Group was the designer. I took a worn bar chest and did a rich black espresso stain, not paint! Then I redid a large hall mirror from bright dated gold to a soft aged brass. Got the best thank you card in the mail too 😍

The client wanted a dry brush technique rather than a wash and I needed to make a “faux brick” onto some of the wood because of a new mantle going on. Turned out great! Chesney from was the designer on this home

Made this piece over for a client moving to FL! Just needed a new look. After I got it almost done I could see the original shadow of the 1.5” ring around the edge so I mimicked it with a second coat of stain to make it look even more detailed!

Photos from Fauxfilled Finishes by Kim Magee LLC's post 01/30/2023

This piece is a perfect example of why sometimes it’s best to hire a professional. It was the client’s childhood desk and she wanted to give it to her granddaughter for Christmas, but she wanted it to be white. Sometimes pieces this age become what they call contaminated. It’s pores in the wood retain the old varnish and it resists, causing it to crackle in areas— even though I cleaned it and primed it correctly. I even did a second primer trick with shellac, still had some cracking. Finally used a thin white strong plaster to seal those cracking areas and it finally worked!! I even did a little furniture doctoring for the next owner 😜. She had carved a star and some other things in the top I was able to get out. Left her handwriting of her childhood “crush”’s name on the bottom which is priceless ❤️
