During the 1870s, American architect H.H. Richardson designed the Watts-Sherman house in the Queen Anne Style. From then, Americans went crazy for it and personalized the style for their American dream, appearing in pattern books for home builds around the country.
Windows are not excluded from the extravagance of the Queen Anne style. Different combinations of windows make up bay windows and oriel windows.
The use of decorative leaded glass in the homes of the well-to-do ran for a 50 year period from 1870 to 1920. The rise in popularity of the work of glass makers John LaFarge and Louis Comfort Tiffany during the 1870s helped to drive this trend. Many of the leaded glass windows used in residential construction during the early part of this period came from professional studios in New York, Boston, and Philadelphia. It was a sign of wealth if you could afford to purchase work from these artisians. Mass produced leaded glass became available after the turn of the century and made it affordable for middle class homeowners who also jumped on the trend. By the mid 1920’s the art glass movement was pretty much played out. The Great Depression, WWII and changes in taste made such ornamentation seem frivolous and it died off. The art form had a comeback in the 1970s as a reaction to the Pop and Psychedelic influences on art and decoration. It was at this point that many hobbyists took up the craft and today almost everyone has a friend or relative who “does stained glass.”

With all of the rain we had in the last few days if you have standing water around your house there a few things you can do to prevent water getting into your foundation and creating major problems

Keep water away from the foundation

One of the easiest and least expensive solutions is to stop water from pooling around the foundation with clean gutters, extended downspouts, proper grading, and yard drainage. If there’s a more significant water problem, a sump pump and drainage system can be added to pump water out of the basement or crawl space.

Most of the time you could fix it yourself, but we would love to help if you need it.
