"We are both very tired but feel that unique sense of accomplishment that a difficult hike can bring." Sounds like the Bundalp detour = a day full of scree for these rockstar hikers, "light scree turning into chunky scree and then big scree". Thanks for sharing, Betsy and Ella!

In Eastern Switzerland, paintings of farming and rural life can be traced back to the sixteenth century. In the 1800s, "Sennenstreifen" became popular among farmers wanting to show off their herd. Sennensteifen are usually long, narrow paintings of the traditional alpine cattle drives. You'd find them on wooden panels or useful objects like this milk pail base.
In honor of International tea day: "Heart of the Dolomites" is an aromatic, spicy tea made with apple, hibiscus , dog rose, almond , cinnamon, rooibos and vanilla beans. For something more summery, try organic Swiss Herb over ice with hints of rose balm, mint, lemon, aronia berries and apple. Happy sipping!
It's National Barbecue Day. Check this out: W.E.S.T. Winter Extreme South Tyrol BBQ contest where hundreds of grillers from 8 nations grill it out each February despite it being below zero. By the looks of their page, these folks are serious about BBQ and know how to have fun.

Breaking news! Hugh Jackman films a movie in the Swiss Alps and loses his Dell laptop.
Just when he thinks it's lost forever, he is grateful to see it found, in the hands of a yodeler who tells him:
"Your Dell lay here, Hugh!"
Behold! The Italian Dolomites, formed 250 mil yrs ago through the romantic encounter of a massive coral reef and a beast of a volcano. Both dolostone and limestone contain karst: rock layers that erode to form holes, caves, underground rivers and springs (yep, fancy bottled water). Now, go hike the Southern Alps for yourself! This “rock fact” was brought to you by Alpinehikers.
"We can’t recommend this area highly enough… the Dolomites are beautiful, rugged and charming. Bellisima!"

Switzerland has four national languages: German 63%, French 22%, Italian 8%, and Romansch 0.5%, and each holds equal status. Since 1815, the four language regions have been one country. How many alphorns does it take to break a world record? 508 performing in unison, 10,000 ft above sea level at Gornergrat Ridge, near Zermatt. It's a rock fact: alphorns are eight feet long and the sound can be heard up to six miles.
