If you happen to be cleaning out your iris beds this weekend in preparation for the Iris Exchange on August 3rd, bag up the dead leaves for the Prescott Community Compost Project! We're running pretty low on carbon/browns because y'all are so good at diverting your food scraps from the landfill (thank you!). However, we won't be able to accept any more food scraps without more carbon! We're looking for leaves that are free of rocks, pet waste and sticks.

What is SUN Bucks/Summer EBT?
SUN Bucks is the name of the USDA’s new Summer EBT program that provides families with $120 per eligible school-aged child to purchase groceries during the summer months when students lose access to free or reduced-price meals. SUN Bucks can be used at grocery stores, convenience stores, farmers markets 😎, and other retailers that accept SNAP benefits to purchase healthy groceries and everyday essentials like milk, bread, fruit, vegetables, and snacks.

Is your child eligible?
Use the 30-second tool in our bio (https://www.summerebt.org/states/arizona) to identify if your child is eligible for SUN Bucks and if you need to apply. This is NOT an application for benefits. Utilizing this tool will not enroll your child in benefits, will not affect other benefits you already receive, and will not affect your immigration status.

Double Up!
SUN Bucks will be doubled at PFM, just like regular SNAP benefits! Swipe your EBT card at the green Info Booth and you’ll receive dollar for dollar silver tokens to be used towards the purchase of fruits, vegetables, dried beans, and edible plants and seeds.

IT’S MARKET DAY! Come support local agriculture and local, small food businesses today from 7:30-12:00 at 900 Iron Springs Rd.
SEE YOUR NEIGHBOR. MEET YOUR FARMER. KNOW YOUR FOOD.
It’s not just our tag line; it’s the truth! It pays to visit all the farmers’ booths to see what they have brought each market day. Chances are you’ll find something special and get to chat with person who grew it! We recently saw Fernando of Aguiar Farms setting out his cauliflower for sale. Look at the size of those gorgeous leaves protecting the florets from the summer heat! Cauliflower leaves are edible! Toss the smaller, tender leaves directly into a salad. Remove the ribbing on the outer leaves, roll them up & dip in hummus for a tasty snack..
Don’t miss the Chefs in Action today! Kevin Walsh & Kristina Jones from The Eatery at YC will be making free samples using seasonal ingredients!

06/28/2024

This month’s Chef in Action is a two-fer! Chef Kevin Walsh & Chef Kristina Jones are both part of the team that is making The Eatery at Yavapai College so much more than a cafeteria. They are teaming up to bring you free samples using seasonal market ingredients. Chef Kevin graduated from PC with a degree in agroecology, where he discovered a passion for growing food. After working his way through several kitchens in Colorado, he’s landed at The Eatery where his values align with their path to sustainable, local, fresh, and nutritious food. Chef Kristina graduated from the Scottsdale Culinary Institute, honed her skills in Tucson and now also operates KitchAcademy , which offers hands-on cooking classes at PFM’s NoCo Community Kitchen . She’s been a guest chef at PFM many times! Both have experience with food that was harvested or raised nearby and we look forward to tasting it!

This is a FREE event and open to the public. Come taste a delicious bite of what’s in season!

Vote PFM as your favorite market in Arizona for the third year in a row: https://markets.farmland.org/markets/8227938 (link in bio). For the past two summers our customers (you!) voted and ranked us as the #1 farmers market in Arizona and we are so grateful! It has brought many opportunities to advance our growth and engage new customers and vendors.

The 2024 America’s Farmers Market Celebration™, presented by American Farmland Trust and the Farmers Market Coalition, is open and runs through July 31st. The Celebration is the only annual ranking of the top farmers markets in the United States as voted on by the public. We’d love to maintain our status as #1 in Arizona, and be ranked in the Southwest Region as well.
Vote now to help PFM take home a piece of the $15,000 prize pool! In addition to the prize money, the top markets also receive national and local press coverage, and other special great perks! Voting is a simple, yet meaningful way, to let everyone know how much you love PFM and acknowledge the impact we make for our farmers, ranchers and community as a whole!

06/24/2024

Please take a few moments to nominate PFM for a donation from Waste Management! It only takes 30 seconds and the form doesn't collect your information. Simply copy/paste our address: 900 Iron Springs Rd 86305 and our website https://prescottfarmersmarket.org/ and you're done! Nominate us here: https://tinyurl.com/4aknrrtb

In yoga, moving through Sun Salutations is a meditative practice that connects the body and the mind through repetitive postures. Sun Salutations can be a particularly meaningful practice at the start of a new season, or during a time of change in nature. This celebration will begin with an intention-setting meditation, then together, we will move through 108 Sun Salutations. You will be gently guided through each one, and a modified Sun Salutation will be offered. After we complete our salutations, you will be eased into long-hold yin-style stretches, and then a special savasana with a sound-bath.
This celebration is beginner-friendly and enjoyable for all levels. Bring a yoga mat, water, and any meaningful items that you’d like to have nearby during your practice. The room will be heated to a comfortable 90 degrees.
