11 years ago, on June 18, 2013, the Granite Mountain Hotshots saved this legendary alligator juniper tree during the Doce Fire.
Tragically, less than 2 weeks later, 19 would lose their lives in the Yarnell Hill Fire.
Tradition is that you are supposed to hike here with someone who's been there before you. It's an incredibly moving experience.
Have you had the Honor & Oppty to visit here? Lets see your pics!

Our Story
The Prescott Fire Department has held in trust all items the community left at Station 7 and sent from around the world mourning the loss of the Granite Mountain Hotshots on June 30, 2013.
The Tribute Fence Preservation Project, led by volunteer directors Jan Monroe and Dottie Morris, coordinated the effort to remove and preserve over 5000 items. Katie Cornelius served as volunteer curator. Over a five month period, approximately 200+ volunteers helped to remove, photograph, store and catalog each item; an additional group spent several additional months working at the Prescott Public Library uploading 3625 photos and descriptions of items to the Arizona Memory Project. To view those items online, please visit: http://azmemory.azlibrary.gov/digital/collection/pgmh
On the one year anniversary of their deaths, the Prescott Fire Department sponsored βA Fire Department Remembersβ in the Hotel St. Michael ballroom. The exhibit recalled the men as firefighters, and gave a brief overview of the history of the Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew. Volunteers from the Granite Mountain Memorial Project helped create and staff the exhibit, which featured over 200 firefighter t-shirts and memorably included a forest of live trees provided by Watters Gardening Center. Over 5000 people visited the one-week exhibit; including many alumni of prior Granite Mountain Hotshot teams. The response was so powerful that the exhibit was re-set up on Prescott Fire Department property, where it was viewed by appointment by visiting hotshot crews, family members, reporters and even the Undersecretary of the Department of Agriculture and National Forest dignitaries for the next three and a half years.
Volunteer and retired Orange Fire Captain Dennis Bueschel and curator Katie Cornelius were brought on as City of Prescott volunteers to oversee the collection in the spring of 2014, and headed up all volunteer efforts as the Granite Mountain Memorial Project through 2018.
