Here at Saddle Horn Outfitters we are rapping up the 2024 season. This year we had a successful year with our hunts including black bears, moose, elk and mule deer. We had a lot of our hunters harvest there game and many opportunities on other game. I personally want to thank all of the Saddle Horn Outfitters team. The success of our hunters is due to the hard work and commitment of our guides, camp jacks, wranglers and livestock. Again thank you all!

A successful bear story for an amazing young man.

Cole started hunting bears with us one year ago under the hunter mentor program. This year, he decided to return at the spur of the moment and had not completed his hunter education. Under Idaho mentor program a hunter can hunt with a mentor one year without a hunter education certificate. Cole sat in his dad’s pickup truck at our base camp and took his online Hunter Education course. He passed the course, received his certificate, and then was able to purchase his bear tag. Cole borrowed my Red Rock 28 Nosler and while sitting the stand his first night, this great bruin came through. One shot and the bear was Cole’s. Congratulations Cole on an amazing bear. Looking forward to many more years hunting together.

Saddle Horn Outfitters LLC is now permitted for power boating, power boat fishing,and walk and wade fishing on Palisades Reservoir. The permit amendment is made to our current operating plan by the Caribou-Targhee National Forest Palisades Ranger District, The Idaho Game & Fish, and Idaho Outfitters Guide License Board, Permit #24084. We will be actively booking charter fishing trips targeting Lake Trout, Brown Trout, Cutthroat Trout, and Kokanee Salmon. The cost of the trips will be as follows:

•1-2 anglers $135/hour with a 3 hour minimum.
•All tackle and ice will be provided by charter.
•All fish care will be provided by charter.
•Any food and drinks you prefer will be provided by anglers on trips of 4 hours or less.
•All food and drinks will be provided by charter on trips of 5 hours or more.

Last week we were privileged to have part of the Outdoor Solutions team hunting spring bears with us. Ryan is one of the OS team that was hunting bears with us, this man is a special individual that I am proud to know. Ryan was a previous Marine Corps Scout Sniper and is now an instructor at the Outdoors Solutions shooting school. Ryan told me he wanted to have an opportunity for a larger blond bruin. While on his week of hunting, he passed on several opportunity’s on other bears. On the evening of the 4th day, Ryan got his chance on a big blond bruin. I have had a lot of people tell me they can make long shots, but Ryan proved his ability on this bear with one exceptional shot from his 28 Nosler. Ryan, thank you for your service, we all owe you a great deal! Congratulations on a great bear!

Last week I purchased 5 new horses and one mule for my good friend Eric at Platinum Equine auction out of Kentucky. This horse is one of them and his maden voyage. This horse earned a new nickname today from Bar Blue Bars to “Sherman” after a Sherman tank the boy has a lot of go and a lot of power.

I’m not much on posting kill photos on this page because of the animal rights activists and none hunting community threatening my friends and family.

Today I am going to make a exception for one of the toughest young men I have ever met. Briggs is a cancer survivor that was diagnosed at 2 1/2 years old surviving 3 chemo treatments, 3 bone marrow transplant and 30 radiation treatments. Briggs was setting a stand with his dad Brenn last night when this bruin and 1 other bear come in. Briggs took the shot with his Browning 308 hitting the bear and it run off. The decision was made to wait until morning to look for the bear. We returned this morning after a sleepless night. After a few hours of search we was able to find the bear expired. Congratulations Briggs on your first bear.

Putting out bear baits Gary and I got a little stuck.

Mr. T is back and this time he brought his lady friend along for a dinner date.

Momma sure has her work cut out for her dealing with the Three Amigos.

Mr. T, a size XXL Boar, was spotted on one of our baits this morning, marking the first time this bear has appeared. If anyone is interested in hunting Mr. T or any other bears we have hitting baits, please contact me before spring bear season ends in Idaho at the end of June.

The old Bruins are waking up!

Here at Saddle Horn Outfitters we are excited for 2024 spring Bear. Hagen and I started setting Bear baits, Our first hunter comes in May 14th.

This guy joined us on a Mule deer hunt this year and traveled all the way from Norway. Rune it was great to have you in camp. Congratulations on your first Mule deer buck.
