MAJOR OBJECTIVE:

We are a Christian non-profit organization that hold Christian values dearly. Looking for volunteers who will provide great customer service and be a team player. Someone who will be willing to learn and accept guidance from Supervisors and other authorities. Willingness to be training with cashier, customer service, and store organizing.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Sort donated items for pricing, moving each item to the correct area of the warehouse.
• Check each item to ensure that it is suitable for sale in the store. Ensure that items to be sold are clean and in good condition. Make decisions about what items should be sold, passed on, or thrown away.
• Determine price, tag item and place on the sales floor.
• Store seasonal items in the correct locations until the proper seasons.
• Hang clothes, checking each item for tears or stains and ensuring that zippers, buttons, and pockets are all in good condition.
• Clean the work area at the end of the shift.
• Collect cash and credit card payments from customers
• Make change accurately and efficiently
• Issue receipts to customers
• Maintain cash control over register drawer and verify amounts are correct
• Answer customer questions as they arise
• Calculate customer bills through cash register ringing
• Help with other tasks as needed including managing shelves, tracking inventory, and keeping the store clean

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Able to distinguish items that are in good condition from items that are not.
• Able to pay close attention to detail.
• Able to move boxes and bags of donations and to do light physical work.
• Reliable in coming for scheduled shifts, or phoning in advance if unavailable or sick.
• Able to work well both independently and as part of a team.
• Able to accept supervision and direction.
• Ability to read and understand instructions
• Ability to add, subtract
• Experience operating a cash register (training available)
• Comfortable with cash handling
• Strong customer service skills

TRAINING:

• Cashiering, Customer service, and Store Organization.

SCHEDULE:

Monday-Friday: 10 am to 5 pm
Saturdays: 10am to 2pm

SUPERVISION:

Direct supervision by House of Mercy Management. Indirect supervision by the Volunteer Services manager or coordinator.
