We want to wish a happy to our hardworking crew. A big thank you to AWN interns Evan, Matthew, and Megan, and shoutout to Macaden from Yakima Valley College for helping to keep our network up and running this summer!
While visiting our Naches station today, the smoke plume from the continued to billow just to our west. We’d like to use this visit as a reminder to practice good fire safety and to thank all firefighters and first responders across the state.
US-12 (White Pass) is closed until further notice due to a wildfire that has shown extreme behavior this afternoon. Fire weather conditions will slowly improve overnight, but scattered air quality issues will continue across the state for the foreseeable future.
HIGH FIRE DANGER WEDNESDAY: Gusty winds and low RH along the east slopes of the Cascades into the Columbia Basin will facilitate modest to locally rapid fire growth. To our southeast, scattered thunderstorms are likely to cause new fire starts which may contribute more smoke to the region down the road. A few thunderstorms may clip southeast Washington from late afternoon through the evening.
Temperatures will cool slightly this week, but fire danger remains high, and smoke will continue to impact the state for the foreseeable future.

Sad to report we experienced some vandalism over the 4th of July holiday. A technician visited Mattawa on Friday to find the solar panel was recently stolen. Fortunately, plenty of sun had our battery well charged and our field team replaced the solar panel this morning without experiencing data loss!
OPEN HOUSE: Come meet the AWN Team at our open house co-hosted by CPAAS on July 12. We will begin at the Roza at 2:15, then relocate to WSU Prosser IAREC for the remainder of the program. We hope to see you then!
