Vincent was incredibly productive during his final months. His stay at Auberge Ravoux (3.5 francs a day - the last place he lived) was only a little over two months. But during this time he created more than 80 paintings, 64 sketches and countless letters.

In fact, Van Gogh's nephew opened the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam to preserve his uncle's legacy. To avoid confusion with his uncle’s name, he was often referred to as ‘the engineer’.

Have you heard the story of Van Gogh's "Almond Blossom"? The painting was a gift for Vincent's newborn nephew, born January 31, 1890. Theo and his wife, Jo, named him Vincent, after his uncle. The painting is a cherished family heirloom and has never been sold.

Van Gogh painted "Sunflowers" during a rare period of optimism while he was awaiting the arrival of his hero, fellow painter Paul Gaugin. Together they planned to establish a "Studio of the South" in Arles, France - a place where artists would live and work together 🎨

On arrival, Gaugin was impressed with Vincent's numerous paintings of sunflowers, describing them as "completely Vincent" ✨

Vincent came from humble beginnings, having many careers before becoming an artist.

Forced to start working because his family was struggling financially, he got his first job working for his uncle as an art dealer in The Hague. At just 15 years old he was the firm's youngest clerk!

Vincent was a visionary - constantly pushing the envelope of what was considered "art" and who was considered an "artist".

He broke the boundaries and structures of traditional oil painting techniques, becoming famous for his bold, dramatic brush strokes which expressed emotion and added movement to his work. This genius led him to become regarded as one of the pioneers of post-impressionist painting.
