Experience the vibrant flavors and rich cultural heritage on Federal Hill in Providence, Rhode Island with the return of the 5th year of Al Fresco on the Hill. Set against the charming backdrop of Federal Hill, known as the city’s “Little Italy,” this outdoor dining event celebrates the culinary arts with an array of entertainment and shopping. Restaurants and retailers set up right on the Avenue in designated sections. AFOTH takes place on Saturday evenings from May 25 – August 31, 2024. Live Entertainment and artistic performances take place in roving positions throughout the event footprint. Guests can Stroll the Avenue while enjoying beverages, shopping, and dining.
Each participating restaurant accepts reservations and we recommend making them when possible. Dining on the Avenue takes place from 5 p.m. -12 a.m. each Saturday night. Sustained heavy rain will be the only reason to cancel the event.

The Federal Hill Commerce Association is excited to celebrate the 31st Annual Columbus Day Festival on historic Federal Hill from October 6th – 9th, 2023. The festival takes place from Dean Street to Sutton Street along Atwells Avenue. We are excited to welcome back and feature the La Cucina Galbani Cooking Stage located at America Street and Atwells Avenue.
Enjoy over 80 food, art, and retail vendors along with games, and amusement rides. Listen to live entertainment on four different stages throughout the festival grounds.
The festival date and times are:
• Friday, October 6th at 5 p.m. until midnight.
• Saturday to Sunday, October 7th – 8th 11 a.m. – midnight.
• Monday, October 9th, 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.
All four days of Festival Dean Street to Sutton Street along Atwells Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic.
This year’s Opening Ceremony will take place at 12 p.m. on Saturday, October 7th at the DePasquale Plaza stage. Our honorees this year are: Grand Marshall – Gene Valicenti – NBC 10, Vincent A. Cianci Civic Award – Peter Carvalhal, Legacy Award – Chris Morris – Antonellis Poultry and Federal Hill Foodie Ambassador – Barbi Jo DiMaria – 92 ProFM.
This year’s annual Columbus Day Festival Parade will take place on Sunday, October 8th at 11 a.m. The parade route is from Knight Street to Bradford Street along Atwells Avenue. This entire section of the avenue will be closed to vehicles during the parade time.

From May 27 to September 2, 2023, every Saturday night Atwells Avenue becomes a lively European atmosphere with the majority of the Avenue closed to vehicle traffic. Experience dining Al Fresco style sitting right on the Avenue with 26 restaurants to choose from. Enjoy live entertainment while you sip, stroll, and people-watch along the Avenue.
Each participating restaurant accepts reservations and we recommend making them when possible. Dining on the Avenue takes place from 5 pm to 12 am each Saturday night. Sustained heavy rain will be the only reason to cancel the event.

Saturday, December 3rd, 2-6 pm – Atwells Avenue
Stroll the Avenue and experience a European-style marketplace as shops and restaurants take over the sidewalks. See carolers stroll the Avenue and view holiday pop-up performances. Take a free trolley ride as you shop and dine. Then let your eyes feast upon a magical lighting extravaganza as buildings throughout the Avenue come to life with festive light displays. The lighting extravaganza will begin at dark and go until 9:30 pm.

Parking along the Avenue will be Free as part of the City’s holiday program
Valet and Paid parking lots will also be available
Decorative sculptures of Christmas tree balls will be placed at St Johns Park and plaza next to Santander bank. Perfect for picture taking with family and friends.

From Dean Street to Lily Street and along Atwells Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic each day. Guests will be able to access all parallel spots and some side streets for parking as well as valet paid parking lots in these areas.
