Driving into Newport will be a breeze for you this summer, with the reconstruction of the Newport Pell Bridge approaches nearing completion. ⛱️ Motorists can experience the new JT Connell Connector which makes it easier and safer to access downtown Newport. 🚗 The new ramp reconfiguration will ease the backups for both visitors and residents, and the shared-use path gives pedestrians and bike riders easy access to local business. 🚲 Learn more: https://bit.ly/4aK9zKU
Every year, hundreds of people are killed in work zone related crashes. We asked our employees to talk about their experiences, and the importance of work zone safety. We urge drivers as they approach a work zone to: - Pay attention - Slow down - Move over if possible Always remember – work zones are a sign to slow down. ⚠️ https://youtu.be/RK817lkmcS4
Here’s a guide on how to successfully merge when approaching a closed travel lane, courtesy of the Idaho Transportation Department. The most efficient way to keep traffic flowing when a travel lane is closed is by staying in your lane until it is time to merge. By merging prematurely, traffic is then unnecessarily slowed.
When entering the new traffic pattern from Downtown Providence, Atwells Avenue, or the Route 6/10 Connector: Travelers heading to Route 146 should get into the two left lanes. Travelers heading to I-95 North, or the State Offices exit should stay to the right.
Work continues around the clock on the Washington Bridge. As of now, we’re still expecting the repairs to take approximately three months. As this effort continues, updates will continue on a weekly basis.
Over at the Henderson Bridge in East Providence, crews are hammering away to remove the old infrastructure, eventually making room for over two dozen acres of land for future development. 🔨
Upcoming: On Saturday morning, January 6, travelers heading north on I-95 will see a new traffic pattern for Exit 38 (old Exit 23) for Route 146 and State Offices. The exit will move one mile south of its present location. Drivers should be prepared to take the exit sooner and must stay in the right lane as they approach Atwells Avenue, immediately after the downtown exit. Drivers continuing north on I-95 must stay to the left. Learn more about the upcoming changes: https://bit.ly/3TGqnh1
Washington Bridge Update: Our crews continue to work around the clock to make preparations for the planned traffic shift to allow two lanes of westbound traffic to cross onto the eastbound side of the bridge. Continuing to recap the great year we had: RIDOT continues to upgrade and expand its fleet of vehicles and inventory of tools to maintain the 1,100 miles of state roadway more effectively. ⚒
Every year, RIDOT looks forward to delivering the State House Christmas tree. We spent the past week cutting, transporting, and securing the 24-foot-tall tree into place on the State House steps. We’d like to thank Adams Farm Cumberland RI for their generous donation of this beautiful Concolor Fir tree, and a fine job by P&K LANDSCAPING for their work by lighting up this year's tree for all to see. Happy holidays! 🎄
Let it snow! ❄ Governor Dan McKee and RIDOT Director Peter Alviti introduced RIDOT’s newest addition of 26 trucks to its snowplow fleet. Flanked by RIDOT maintenance staff in their new uniforms, the Governor and Director Alviti said the trucks bring the full fleet – with vendors – to 425 in total. They also urged all drivers to remember not to crowd the plow, and to slow down in wintery conditions 🌨 Learn more: https://bit.ly/3Nmx3wH
RIDOT had a great year this year, investing in safety initiatives to keep Rhode Islanders safe. 🚫🍸📵This year, we invested $30 million in safety improvements and funded $1.5 million in paid public service messaging to discourage dangerous driving behaviors, such as impaired and distracted driving. In November, the RIDOT Roadside Responder service began. This pilot program uses service vehicles patrolling Providence-area highways to help clear disabled vehicles stopped on the side of the road, helping to reduce congestion on our highways.
