December always feels like a mad dash before the holidays are officially here and the new year is upon us. There’s only 17 business days left in 2021! Client prioritization and organization are critical for us at Working Planet. What are you focusing on?

Time management and focusing on the task at hand might be daunting during a busy workday. The use of protected time is one secret to success here. Working Planeteers mark off specified blocks of time on their calendars to work on a particular task, turning their attention away from everything else and solely focusing on that one to-do. Protected time ensures that we are not procrastinating on anything, allows folks to work on their specializations, and helps us remain hyper-organized and efficient in the work that we do.

Consider this, if you're not telling your team member something they need to know to be their best, are you really looking out for them? Are you being the best teammate you can be? We introduced a framework for building stronger communication, based on Kim Scott's book Radical Candor. In simplest terms, Radical Candor states that feedback should be given immediately, directly, and coming from a place of care. Feedback is not to point out mistakes, but to help the other person be the best version of themselves. Radical Candor should be practiced at all levels and is not a management down form of communication. The spirit of Radical Candor has been true at Working Planet for a long time, but we've all made conscious efforts to practice it within this past year, and we've already felt the benefits!

Every team at Working Planet holds a Stand-up meeting twice a day. When they hold it, or what they name it might be a little different by team, but these daily gatherings have one important purpose: to re-prioritize work if priorities have changed. Daily Stand-ups are a great time to also quickly re-cap the current or previous day, discuss client updates, and address time-sensitive concerns. In addition to team problem solving, these daily meetings also serve as a time to reconnect and bond as a team.

Working Planet's culture is one of learning, growing, and collaboration. Part of our path to advancement for many includes incorporating a Specialization. We define that as a meaningful topic that one spends time developing. Python coding, AI, and our Training Program to name a few!
