The AS220 Printshop is equipped with a range of printing equipment; including a Vandercook SP4 Letterpress and a Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) donated, massive Takach intaglio etching press with a 4.5’ x 9.5’ press bed.
Cyanotype is a photographic printing technique used by artists, botanists and architects for almost 200 years! Learn all the steps required to create your cyanotype prints: from the preparation of the solution to the creation of images on transparent media using both digital and hand-drawn negatives, to exposing to light and fixating color. Discover how to apply your prints onto different surfaces such as paper, fabric and wood with the use of photos, plants, flowers and even objects!

Tuesdays, July 9 & 16 at 6 PM
This workshop will give you the skills to create Computer Aided Designs (CAD) for CNC milling applications. Create furniture, signage, manufacturing jigs, artwork, and much more. The course includes an overview of the history and capabilities of modern manufacturing, CAD design principles and practices, and CNC operation and safety protocol. Once the course is complete, you will be authorized to use the 4’x8’ shopbot cnc independently yourself!
Screenprinting on Alternative Materials with Minoo Emami
Mondays & Wednesdays, July 8 - 17 at 7 PM
In this workshop, You’ll use screen print techniques to print your designs on diverse materials like metal, glass, acrylic, bisque tiles, and wood. You will be able create one-of-a-kind art pieces as gifts or mementos or print production for the market.

Are you interested in learning how to shoot with your 35mm or medium format film camera? Understand the basics of aperture, shutter speed and ISO and how to use your camera’s light meter with We will also cover the basics of focus, focal length, depth of field and using your camera’s shutter speed to create different effects with fast-moving moving subjects. Students will leave this 3 hour workshop with one shot/exposed roll of film and a better understanding of the manual functions of their 35mm film camera. What is PAYG?
PAYG, or, Pay As You Go, is exactly as it sounds. You pay for each hour of time you spend using a resource in the Industries plus a one time admin fee. You have access to the Industries during our public hours (see below).
$20 admin fee + $15 per hour
And if you are BIPOC, you get 25% off the admin fee and the $15 per hour fee.
Why is PAYG the only membership option available?
This membership offering is closely related to the new membership model we are currently developing than other membership tiers we used to offer, like volunteer monthly and standard monthly.
But what if I am a resident of AS220?
You can become a member too! And we have a special tier of membership just for you.
As a resident of AS220, you get free 6 hours of shop time per month. Each additional hour of shop time is available for a discounted rate of $10. Even though you're a resident, you still only have access to the space during public hours (see below).
And if you are BIPOC, you get 25% off the $10 per hour fee

Get certified to laser-cut wood, plastics, papers or textiles on the Epilog Mini AND learn how to use the vinyl cutter to make stickers and signs!
𝗪𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲𝐬: 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟐𝐧𝐝 & 𝟐𝟗𝐭𝐡, 𝟔-𝟗𝐩𝐦
This class will cover the basics of using the laser and vinyl cutter safely, techniques for working with different materials, and software tools for preparing work for the cutters.
Our laser cutter is an Epilog Mini 24 The work area is 24" x 12", and it can hold items up to 8" tall. We also have a cylindrical attachment that allows you to etch cylinders such as glassware. AS220's vinyl cutter is a Roland Camm-1 CX-24 and can take vinyl rolls of 15" and 24" in width.
After taking the workshop, you will have a solid understanding of what the machine can do and how to design a project and will be certified to use the Labs' laser cutter.

Some of our members are organizing a community art-making meet up! This is a casual gathering for our community to get together and make :). Feel free to bring your own supplies, start a collaborative project, facilitate an activity, or work on your own project while sharing space with others. We will have some facilitators who will be there to hold space and provide any kind of support. Some basic art supplies will also be provided! Come hang out!
