No generation has been more blessed nor more challenged than the one in this decade. The rise of opportunities with new-found technologies benefits the daily lives of my students and has had no parallel in history. At the same time, with the Omicron variant all over the world, the expectation of an end to the pain of this pandemic has vanished. In Higher Education, choosing a learning discipline becomes secondary, while students are trying to understand what they want out of life.

The need for preparation beyond academic and theoretical understandings is crucial nowadays. However, the never-ending hunger of hope for a better tomorrow is giving us all great lessons of humanity and kindness amidst the darkness of the past years. Knowledge when paired with real life experiences allows for reflection that leads to clarity of life’s purpose.

This winter semester, I have the joy and honor to be part of the lives of my wonderful BYU students. They come with their dreams, hopes and fears. Life is uncertain for them, but their optimism is refreshing and admirable. I care for each of them. By the end of the semester, I know I’ll say the following: “the teacher becomes the student.” Blessings!
