Spring evening sounds

This year we're helping our friends @littlesalmonfarm make maple syrup instead of making it in our driveway. They have a much bigger, and more efficient system, without any buckets to haul up hill. Syrup season is one of the things Eric and I were looking forward to the most when we moved back to New York. It comes at the part of winter that seems like it should be spring. It has been a warm and short winter, which means the sugar maple trees started running earlier than they did last year. #maplesyrup #climatechange #syracuse #sugarmaple

Clouds of frill white cosmos are here. I love a big bunch all by itself - no other flowers to compete. Do you know Sweet Annie? I grew it for the first time last year, and it self seeded. Now I'll be stuck with this sweet smelling green - but that's ok! It dries well, plays well with other flowers in an arrangement and outlasts most other flowers in a vase. This morning I harvested three types of basil for bouquets: Thai, Persian and lemon. (I'm also growing genovese, Greek and lettuce basil for pesto.) Add some zinnias and you get a bouquet with a weird meaning: hateful thoughts of absent friends. Or maybe hating that friends are absent?
