Sunny evening. This year I learned black walnut syrup is a desired thing. So next year we will try tapping this black walnut tree.

Old garden rose that smells so nice. You're coming inside with me.

Chamomile is everywhere inside and out right now.

A nice spring surprise is feverfew that over wintered and will be blooming so so soon!

Petals like a painting.

This tulip is a variety called mondial and was grown in my basement. Most have been going to my local florist via . I saved a few for our kitchen windowsill.

One of the last dried flower pieces for the season.

02/29/2024

The first tulip I harvested this year sat by my bedside as it opened. Now dried out, it remains, still beautiful.

02/23/2024

This week on the farm I harvested the first few forced tulips. Figuring how to trick nature certainly is a steep learning curve. There are some successes - like these flowers that are now on my dining table - and plenty of learning moments. The photos of flowers that won't make it out of the basement might never be posted online. I'll take them just for myself to learn from for next season.

Did anyone else make a succulent wreath with this spring? Mine got neglected, but now is the star of our dinner table.

11/26/2023

This morning I tried something new to me with dried flowers. It was nice to challenge my fingers to something different, but do I like it? I'm not sure.

Happy Friday

May you have some bright colors in your day; the sky and leaves outside, or flowers and textiles inside

The handful of roses I brought inside a few days ago is opening up. We take big breathfuls of their scent a few times each day. I can't think of any other plans that get me quite as excited as roses. I'm grateful for these last few blooms.

Here are a few of the last roses of the year cut from the garden this morning. It was a tough season for growing roses this season. All the pounding rain storms really took a toll on the flowers. However, the plants themselves grew beautifully with barely a black spot in sight. Hopefully this means next season will be bountiful.

Today I got very muddy digging up some of the dahlias to save for next year. We had so much rain over the weekend that the shovel squelched with each clump of tubers that came out of the ground.

This spring I discovered how easy it was to propagate strong dahlia plants by taking cuttings. That alone is why I'm going to keep growing this crop.

Thanks for the photo.

Harvest moon - maybe my favorite wreath of the season?

10/22/2023

This week we took the final few buckets of flowers from the field. Another couple days of heavy rain, and potential freezing temperatures mean I really have to give up on all the summer flowers.

The flower fields are fading, but the maples around our house are bursting with color right now. How lucky we are to see the changing seasons.

It's another cold, dark rainy day (after a week of nice weather). Inside it's bursting with color, and not all autumnal shades.

10/13/2023

Last night the temperature dipped down below 40 F and the dahlias, zinnias and basil really suffered. It is the middle of October, so fall weather is right on time, even if I'm not ready.

One (last?) bucket of flowers came in to dry and we started harvesting seeds for next year. Seed saving is one of my favorite tasks.

I love this little tiny wreath, especially the wiggly bit of the grape vine that sticks out.

10/11/2023

Just two years ago we visited the farm we bought (from the west coast) for the second time. We walked around the hayfield for the first time and were filled with grand plans for what we would grow.

Photos from Fernwood Flower Farm's post 10/09/2023

It's been grey and cold and four inches of rain fell over the weekend. I've been inside making more wreaths and a big mess on the floor. You can see them all at the link in my bio.
