This week in our series features The Park Hotel and The Red Moon!

Located in the heart of downtown Put-in-Bay, The Park Hotel was built in the 1870's to welcome steamship travelers to the island. With three floors and a high peak, the hotel was easily seen by travelers from the decks of the steamships as they rolled into the bay. The Victorian era traveler who stayed here saw the hotel much as the present day traveler sees it today!

Adjacent to the lobby is the Hotel’s original Dining Hall which is connected to the Round House Bar. In keeping with the nostalgia of the era, the dining hall has now been transformed into The Red Moon, the island’s only Speakeasy. The transportation of liquor to the Speakeasy’s became quite a business on the Great Lakes. Nearly 900,000 cases of liquor were shipped to lakefront towns from over 100 Canadian breweries and distilleries in the first seven months of Prohibition.
