A study.

(Sorry.for the repost, there was a typo in the last one that I couldn't fix)

If I were to critique it, it would be to use different directional brush strokes and establish the hierarchy of light values so that there is a focal point. I could glaze over the lighter areas and then add the highlight.

This cloth was off-white, so the reflected light bounced back into the shadows as a warm light, whereas the shadows with the cool light did not.

Color studies are good for establishing the plan for a final. It doesn't mean I have to redo the study. Many paintings are better to start over unless you're learning so that you can nail it the first time. That way, it looks less worked. It's just what I've noticed with all the studies I've done.

A personal critique before starting a painting color study.

Practicing painting trees today.

Got up at 4am, and packed all of the things to Plein air at Mount Rainier. And followed all the tips I got from class. Made for a very smooth trip! But this also isn't my first rodeo. The first plein air was in 2020, and I had the sun straight in my face and the wind blowing everything. But this time, I knew I'd get a good view. And found some other locations along the way. The first location was this beautiful plain at the bottom looking up at the mountain, but they closed the trail at the very part I needed to see the view! If the tape had said caution instead of keeping out, I'd have painted it! This was so fun. Now I'm going back to sleep!

A Small study

5 hands a day

I'm enjoying the larger value studies lately. 18x24 on toned paper. For a thesis painting.

5AM ❄️ ❄️ ☕️ 😊

We do all this work on ourselves with the hope of making some good use of ourselves before we die. :) One more year and I'm finally out of school. I had a friend who'd been in school since 2007 and was always working on something. One day she posted her graduation picture of her getting her doctorate. I was like, hallelujah lady! I think my brain would punch me if I went for my doctorate after this. With that, have a nice day :)
