"Art gives me a freedom to express my feelings and possibly have someone look at my sculpture and feel the same way. I want a kid/adult to look at my sculpture say wow and smile, and make them realize art can be anything you want it to be. My sculpture is always changing due to the weather in my opinion showing age can really affect a piece. I chose a 3D sculpture so the viewer can see all around it like they would a normal tree in the forest."

The Tapestry Singers, Food Bank Concert was a huge success! We delivered 174 lbs. of food and $931 to the Puyallup Food Bank!! We would like to thank our sponsor, First Christian Church and the community for their generous support!

NEW ARTIST EXHIBIT:
Yichao Zhang, Artist

Yichao Zhang was born in Zhengzhou, China, where she studied classical art from an early age. She believes that artistic discipline is the prerequisite for becoming an outstanding artist. She pushes herself to excel across various mediums. She creates oil, charcoal and pencil, watercolor, ink, and digital works from her studio. Her work draws inspiration from the masterworks of the Renaissance and Neoclassical eras. She is currently concentrating on creating neoclassical oil paintings and challenging her freehand sketching ability.

The exhibit runs from April 2nd through June 28th.

NEW ARTIST EXHIBIT:
Darlene Dihel
Sumi-E Artist, Japanese inkbrush painting.

"I use traditional images using black ground sumi ink, but also incorporate Asian watercolors as well as creating collages and abstracts. A painting session begins by grinding a black Sumi stick made from pine soot and glue on a slate stone to make liquid ink. A bamboo animal hair brush is loaded with ink and applied to rice paper to form the subject matter. No sketching is done. Once the stroke is made, that's it, it's done."

The exhibit runs from April 1st through June 27th.

ARTS DOWNTOWN would like to thank you for your continued support and remind you that it is membership renewal time!

2023 was a year to celebrate. We sited a new rotating Gallery and 3 new sculptures were added to our permanent Gallery. "Butterfly" by Kris Vermeer. "Renovation", by Sharon Agnor, (in memory of a long-time volunteer and member). "Flight" by CJ Rench (was voted Community Favorite, and purchased by the city).

2024 will also be the year for our biannual Arts Celebration, scheduled for November 16, 2024. Mark your calendars now!

Our Board meets monthly and we are accepting new board members and volunteers.

We couldn’t do this without your support and your membership is so important for 2024. Plus, it is very affordable!

You can join for as little as $30 for the year and there are discounts for artists.

Arts Downtown is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization. Our collection of quality public art in the outdoor gallery now features 59 works of art along with 5 in the rotating gallery.

The permanent collection is donated to the city with ADT still remaining its caretakers.

ROSEMARY ECKERSON'S MEMORIAL SCULPTURE
ADT Founder Rosemary Eckerson's family along with Arts Downtown has chosen renowned artist, and ADT artist Sabah Al-Dhaher to create a sculpture in her honor. He began work on it in August. It will be a beautiful piece made of basalt with a heart made of onyx, symbolizing her love and care for her family and community. It will be located in Pioneer Park or next to Puyallup City Hall. The exact location has not yet been decided and must be approved by the City. It will be an amazing addition to Puyallup’s Outdoor Sculpture Gallery in which Rosemary was an instrumental founder.

"I created this collection using bones and different smiles. I explored the shape, lines, color, acrylic, and wood. Inspired by images that make me happy and hopeful, represented by bones and smiles. So often, we allow outside forces to take away our happiness and hope when it was never theirs to take or ours to give. The collection 'Not Your Bones', is a reclaiming of our hope, through our bones, our happiness, and our smiles. A reminder to our higher selves, I hope you always smile."
