Had my cousin, James, out today with me at Falcon. We ran a bunch of water, the bite was a little off, but if we’d had got all the bites in the boat….probably would be a different story. What suck the MOST….I had ol girl sn**ch ahold of the New 400DD. She pulled a few times, shook her big dome a few time and just kept on going 🤷‍♂️

I got the BEST rod, BEST line, BEST cranks…it just HAPPENS 😭

Falcon was good today, we didn’t have a big bag, but we caught fish and had some good-un’s mixed in. Wind kept us pinned a little and then we literally didn’t bring any food, so we got off a little early. Daylight take off manàna….we MAY have a special guest tomorrow. I’ll give you a hint, he likes tequila and he’s known as the “Big Unit” down here 😜

When I start thinking “Fall fishing”, first thing I think of is “fall back”. See, it all starts with the bait. The water begins to cool and the bait begins to head back in the creeks, or “fall back” into the creeks. Now, obviously if the bait goes there, the bass goes there too 😜
East Texas is full of timber and grass, the Crush 50X with and WITHOUT rattles becomes my #1 for banging timber and ripping grass.

This ol’ Woody Harrelson lookin ass bass took a hook to the eyeball….luckily I had the EXACT right equipment to still be able to keep him hooked up and all the way to the net, OH…and this is a Falcon Lake bass, they jump and twist like Simone Biles on crack!
I’m a firm believer in a composite rod for cranking, and most treble baits. The bled of graphite and fiberglass creates a composite blank that has significantly more sensitivity than fiberglass but still has the parabolic flex and bend of a pure glass rod. Sensitivity isn’t as important on moving baits as it is dragging baits, so it’s ok to sacrifice one for the other. I have lost more DD fish on deep cranks than most anglers could ever dream of even seeing, so I made a decision about 2016 to switch to composite rods for deep cranking versus the full on graphite rods I had been using. Of course we still lose fish, but the % has gone down and that’s all that matters to me!!!!!

My go to deep crank rod is a 7’6” Feel N Reel rod with a size 200 reel in a 6.6:1 gear ratio

Hey dude, this heat is for real. I just got off and electronics trip and I’m sick as hell now!

Anglers, the split second you feel nauseous, lightheaded, dizzy, weak, or start to get a headache….it’s PAST TIME to get off the water.

You have to immediately get yourself out of the sun, in the shade, off your feet and slowly hydrate and DO NOT go back out! You’re overheating and your internal body needs time to cool.

That’s a not a quick tip….this is an order from your CapN!!! 🫡
