Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from the farm!

Our day of photos at the farm was so much fun! We did lots of posed family pictures for Christmas cards but some of my favorites are these in-betweens and after shots of genuine joy. Catching snowflakes on tongues was a real bonus!

The Red Truck pantry's first fundraiser was a success and we thank you all for coming out and letting me capture your sweet families!

Our second and last cria was born last week! This little one has contracted tendons but because it was able to stand, nurse and follow mama well enough, we're letting it be for a couple more days to see if the front legs stretch out with exercise.

Otherwise, we'll be applying splints this week which should be an adventure!

Also, mama spit on my head while taking these photos πŸ™ƒ

Edited to add: WOW. The response to this has been so heartwarming. And because it's World Kindness Day, I wanted to share my "why" - some of the inspiration behind this.

Years ago, a friend told me about a woman she met at the church she attended. The woman was a single mom and had no family in the area. She worked two jobs but still struggled to make ends meet (hello, cost of childcare!). So, she humbled herself enough to ask for help from an assistant pastor at the church. She knew they kept toilet paper in a closet at the church and she asked him if there was any way she could have some, to get her through the end of the month. The assistant pastor said no, not his problem and that's not what the toilet paper is for.

Imagine the look on her face. The humiliation she must have felt. You seek help from those who are supposed to follow Christ's example, and that's the response you get? I'll never forget this woman and she'll never know how much she impacted me.

β€œChrist has no body now but yours. No hands, no feet on earth but yours.
Yours are the eyes through which he looks compassion on this world.
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good.
Yours are the hands through which he blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands, yours are the feet, yours are the eyes, you are his body.
Christ has no body now on earth but yours.”
~ Teresa of Ávila

We have exciting news to share!

The red truck parked in front of the farm will now be home to a community pantry. We hope to keep it stocked with personal hygiene products, socks, gloves, underwear, warm clothing, blankets, etc, so people can get extra help when they need it most or help their neighbor/family/friend who may be in need.

Bins will stay in the back of the truck 24/7 for people to come as they can. If there is a need that is pressing and the item isn't in the bins, people are welcome to leave us a note and we'll do our best to provide it for them.

Every event we have on the farm will operate as a fundraiser for this pantry to meet the needs of the community however we can! We can't wait to partner with you all in this new venture.

One of our alpaca mamas surprised us with her sweet baby out in the field! One of the "fun" bits of animals from an auction is never knowing when to expect the unexpected πŸ˜† but Cria sure are cute!

Our misfit goat count is at two - we have Jif (orphaned at birth) and Jelly (rejected at birth). They aren't in the house anymore but goodness, there isn't much better than enjoying your kids enjoying the kids. Not pictured is Clay sleeping in front of the heater with Jif.

Phew. Today was hard. The butcher came and processed all of our feeder pigs and one yearling sheep. I cried, and felt sick, and then cried again but ultimately felt good about raising meat that was loved and cared for. The pigs were born here and died here and spent their last hours grazing fresh grass. The yearling lamb was the first lamb born to our little flock. All knew only one bad day. Well, one bad minute, really.

A brighter spot is this sweet mini lamancha goat that the kids named Jif (like the peanut butter). He lost his mama after birth and a friend let us take him in as a bottle baby. He is pure joy in a tiny little body and we just adore him.

Death and life, hard and easy.

Clay and I ordered supplies a few months ago to make candles as a sort of homeschool project (solids/liquids, percentages, weight by volume, etc) and our candle experiments got a little out of control because I love candles πŸ˜… this week the cured candles will be in the farmstand!

More pictures of the rest of the scent options to come!

"Angus/Wagyu cross cattle on natural grass pastures in the Columbia River Valley. Our cattle are raised in a natural family herd and fed exclusively from our pasture grass. We store surplus hay in the summer to balance winter feeding. The beef we sell is born and raised on the farm in our herd with 3 generations of happy mama cows.

The Wagyu beef genetics offer the best finished cuts for marbling and healthy Omega-3 fats in a grassfed beef"

Brand-spankin'-new piglets. So fun when we get to catch the birth. It never gets old!

02/02/2022

Planning for local pork this year? Contact us to get on the list for spring feeders! Available by the half and whole.

Our pigs live their best piggie lives so you can feel good about where your food comes from. They are free to forage and romp in fresh air and green pasture.

The meat is rich, well-marbled and delicious! We expect this group to reach between 180-200 pounds hanging weight by their butcher date in late April.

$4/lb and buyer pays butcher fees (get in touch with us to find out more about those estimated costs).
