Hello W. Boada Accounting & Consulting network! I am sorry for being missing in action but it is that time of the year for me.

Last night I found this post and it made me reflect a little bit on SUCCESS... As a Finance / Accounting individual, I used to naturally measure SUCCESS based on how much money I had and how many material things I possess, up to certain extent. However, none of those aspects made me fully happy... rather made me more stressed and embittered.

In time, I realized that when I was helping people (and their businesses), is when I felt happiness for real! I guess it was because, some way / some how, I was making "that" difference in their life at "that" specific moment.

Who does not want to be happy while doing the work?

It is the reason why I reflected this in my business' purpose: "... becoming the trusted and reliable business partner that will accompany you and your business all the way until achieving sustainable financial and operational SUCCESS."... When I achieve my purpose with each of my clients, I am happy and fulfilled...

As part of the COVID-related Tax Relief Act of 2020, the federal government will begin to provide a second round of stimulus payments to eligible recipients. The bill currently signed into law, considers a $600 payment for each eligible adult (decreasing as income raises), and each child dependent can also qualify for a $600 payment. There is currently a push for a $2,000 payment instead of $600 per person. It was already approved by the House but it is still waiting for the Senate's vote. Changes in the payment amounts are NOT expected to change WHO is eligible to receive them.

If you’re eligible to receive a payment, you may receive the funds in one of these ways:

Automatic deposit

If you are eligible for a payment, your payment will be deposited directly into the same account used when you filed your 2019 tax return and/or the account number used in the previous stimulus payment program. The payment will appear in your account summary as “IRS TREAS 310 XXTAXEIP2” or something similar.

The IRS has a website where you can check your payment status here (https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus-tax-relief-and-economic-impact-payments). This link is likely to be frequently updated.

Paper check in the mail

If you did not give the IRS your direct deposit account information through your federal tax return in the last two years, and have not provided the IRS with your information as a non-filer, you will likely receive a US Treasury check. The check will be mailed to the address on file at the IRS from the prior year tax return.

Do not wait until March to start working on your business' 2021 Tax Returns: Get ready for taxes today! Here few recommendations:

1. Gather your business' tax records: Have records organized to make preparing a tax return easier. It may also help you discover potentially overlooked deductions or credits.

2. If your business sells products, it is the perfect time to check for obsolete inventory or uncollectable debts as those could be considered deductible expense (less taxes to pay!)

3. Review the taxes you’ve already paid, such as estimated federal or state taxes, as it will help you to estimate how much the last quarter of the year would be, improving your business' cash flow projections for year end.

4. If you have a Home Office, double check the size of your office, and calculate the percentage of your home’s square footage the office occupies, you have the option of taking tax deduction for it!

5. For those businesses which benefited in 2020 from any Economic Impact Payments, keep Notice 1044 (Your Economic Impact Payment) handy, as it will help to determine if any Recovery Rebate Credit could apply to your business.

6. Lastly, hire a small business tax professional. Tax code in US is very complex so you're definitely less likely to get in trouble by doing something by mistake if you hire a professional.
