I am a hobbyist betta breeder, rescuer, and fish enthusiast located in Raleigh NC BeasBettas.com
My first spawn in North Carolina
A pic of some curious girls from my first spawn.
Bea's Bettas moved!
Two weeks ago we packed up our home in Austin and took 3 dogs, 2 goldfish, and 6 bettas on a 3 day journey to North Carolina. While we are in temporary housing there will be no breeding, but I have alresdy started cycling a breeding tub for next month.
Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly and we can get these pretty bettas paired for the next generation!
In September, I had a micro spawn with Mango and his daughter Strawberry. I removed Mango as soon as the spawning process was done because he was clearly tired, and they ended up being his last spawn.
I kept 2 of the 6 fry and absolutely love how they turned out! They both have a bright yellow base and a white mask on top. The female in particular has nice solitary dark scales like Mango had, while the male is a bit more grizzle like then I would have hoped for. I also like the long white rays on both of their tails and hope that they will even out over the next generation.
I have a few spawns planned out with them over the summer, both together and with a pair of wildtype spade tails. I am hoping that with each linebreeding, the traits I am after will continue to grow stronger!
The smoothie spawns are a month old and growing! I have 20 fry combined in a single tank from both sets of parents.
The colors showing at this age are phenomenal, lots of yellow, copper, and white bettas. It's really gratifying seeing this generation starting to show the traits I am breeding for at a month old when in the past I wouldn't see colors until 3+ months.
These guys are spicy, I am already thinking of jarring a few for fighting. They are also already transitioning to frozen foods which is making my life easier. 😅
I can't wait to see these guys in another months time!
We have eggs from Coconut and Strawberry, AND Lychee and Papaya!
My first pair, Coconut and Strawberry weren't quite figuring it out, so I tossed a second pair into an outside breeding tub as insurance.
Both spawns ended up successful!
Coconut is from Dumbo x Mango - https://www.beasbettas.com/my-spawns/YK03b
Strawberry, Lychee, and Papaya are from Yellow Fancy x Mango - https://www.beasbettas.com/my-spawns/YK3
Edit: he has been adopted!
Unicorn the White Dumbo Halfmoon Betta is looking for a tank to live out his old age in! He is possibly 1.5 - 2 years old, and should live another 1-3 years with proper care.
He was surrendered to me 2 weeks ago after his previous owner was unable to resolve his fin rot and swim bladder issues. He went through 2 rounds of medication with me and is finally doing really well. His fins are starting to regrow, he is swimming great, and all of his energy is back!
I call him Unicorn because his dorsal fin was clamped so long that it merged together, creating a "horn".
He would do best in a shallow tank (under 12 inches tall) that is heated and cycled. He has NOT been tested with shrimp, but I can upon request.
Pick up in North Austin/pflugerville. He is free, but I will gladly accept donations of medication so I can continue to help fish who are surrendered to me.
Last week I made the difficult decision to help my boy, Mango, peacefully swim across the rainbow bridge. He has been my pride and joy, and most everyone who's been to my home to get a fish has had him shoved in their face lol. I've been crying a lot over the past few days, and wanted to do an appreciation post for this wonderful betta.
Mango's father was from my very first spawn. I paired him with a lovely rose gold female in his personal tank - a heavily planted 20 gallon. I never saw fry but fed the tank for the first few weeks, but stopped after it seemed that the spawn failed. A month later I was cleaning out the tank when I found 3 little fry! I moved them to a tank with some dumbo fry and eventually lovely Mango developed.
Mango is exactly the betta I set out to create 3 years ago. I wanted a strong yellow base with blue and white over top, with minimal/no black spots. The full white mask was a bonus. Over his two and a half years with me he never marbled to blue or black.
Mango produced 6 healthy and amazing spawns for me. He was the most gentle partner with his ladies, never hurting them or tearing fins. His fry all are beautiful and with wonderful finnage and form. If you've been to a fish store in Austin, you've probably seen his fry!
Mango gave me one last spawn before he left me. They are 2 months old and are already turning into little Mangos. While I am incredibly sad that he is gone, I am so thankful he swam into my fish room and gave me so many fry. I look forward to this spring where the next generation will begin.
My latest rescue boy went to his new home tonight!
This poor boy spent a year in an unheated, unfiltered 1 gallon tank with occasional water changes. While he was surviving in these conditions, he was not thriving. When he came to me his colors were dull and he was lethargic.
I put him in a 5 gallon outdoor pond with lots of plants and decor to explore, scuds to eat, heat, and frequent water changes. It's been three weeks and his color has returned, he is moving around, and his fins have started growing!
He is a great example of how proper care is vital to a bettas happiness and health.
This will be my last rehome post for this spawn. Any that aren't rehomed or on hold by the end of the week will be headed to the local fish stores. If you wanted a fish shipped to you now is the time to reach out!

These guys turned 4 months old yesterday so it's time for a photo shoot! Here are a few pics of the 50+ bettas I have left from this spawn. More on my site - https://www.beasbettas.com/my-spawns/F3YK
Are you wanting a sorority in the next few months? Time to reach out and let me know!
Two sorority groups have already gone to their new home. I have 16 additional confirmed females, and more on the way!
They are still changing colors and are starting to marble, but if you are up for a surprise they are ready to start heading to their new homes!
Cute discount male available!
Unfortunately his fins got torn while still in the growout tank. They are growing back and he is very healthy. (And angry)
Small rehoming fee
A few boys are just about ready for their new homes! Their fins are growing nice and long as they learn to flare. There are a bunch of amazing colors coming out of this spawn, and they all have really pretty caudal fins and shiny scales.
Reach out if you are looking for a new baby betta!
The fry are just over 2 months old and some are starting to marble into Koi! There colors have been so unexpected, so watching them marble has been very exciting.
So far I am at about 100 bettas, the largest amount I have ever grown to adulthood! In the past I have kept my spawns around 30-40 bettas, so this will be a busy summer. Be sure to stay tuned as bettas (especially males) are ready to be rehomed!
I will have a female sorority available soon so please reach out if you are looking for one. Expected sorority will be koi and solid color plakats in reds, blues, yellows, and possibly black.
Spring Spawn Update!
Mango and Sprite's Yellow Koi spawn have produced.....red fry?! Their babies are red, copper, pink, and green, nothing like what I expected from the pairing. I have no clue what they will look like as they grow up, but I know they will be very pretty.
Mango and Blueberry's first spawn didn't turn out well, something must have spooked him and he ate all his fry. After a long break and reconditioning, their second attempt hatched today!
I have one more spawn planned for the summer. Since Mango and Sprite have red in their line, I have imported a pair of Yellow Dragon plakat dumbos for his final spawn.
Pictures of the fry to come soon!
My first spawns for the year have hatched! I paired two ladies with a male from my 3rd Yellow Koi spawn.
Mango is 1.5 years old and is still a gorgeous yellow koi who hasn't marbled over. I love his form and colors!
Sprite is a yellow fancy plakat I got from Bill Tr. I am hoping their fry have lots of vibrant yellow. She has some grizzle spots, so we will see how much they affects the next gen.
Blueberry is a Blue rim plakat also from Bill Tr. I am hoping their fry are able to maintain the blue spots that don't marble over time.
More pics and videos to come 🥰
Winter is over so it's time for a spawn!
First pair will be Mango and Sprite. Mango is from my 3rd generation yellow koi line, and Sprite is from Thailand!
These were the last two dumbos available from this season!
I am now on a hiatus until spring time when I will start up again!
Sorority females are up!
https://www.beasbettas.com/for-sale
Female betta sororities do best in 40 gallon tanks and up.
You need a minimum of 5 girls in a tank and at least 5 gallons per betta. (5 - 8 girls in a 40g is the recommended minimum)
Lots of plants and hiding spots are necessary to provide places for the girls to hide in and claim as their own space.
Sororities with sisters do best, but mixed tanks can do well too with proper care and setup.
Some of these girls are a little angrier then others and will need to be grouped with care. Let me know who you are interested in and I can help build a healthy, lasting sorority!
Hey yall!
I have a few rescue bettas in need of new homes. They were being used as rentable decorations and were being held (about 40 bettas) in a single tank together. The original rescuer had to humanely euthanize a bunch and has been treating the remaining ones for the last month.
The first two ready for their next homes are these beautiful Double Tail Halfmoons. They look like they've seen some sh*t and have the ora of an elderly person with a hundred years of life experience from which to offer the most humbling advice.
They need shallow tanks with low water movement. I can test them with shrimp or guppies upon request.
They have a $5 adoption fee to help cover their costs.
Last night a bunch of toads flocked to my yard and laid eggs in one of my betta ponds. I suspect their usual water ways in the nearby greenbelt dried up from the drought. I was not aware that toads can be toxic to fish.
As a result about 40% of my dumbo spawn is gone, and another 20% are in a hospital tank. I am hopeful for their recovery but aware they may not make it. I had split the spawn by size last week so the smaller of the fry are alive and safe.
It has been a devastating loss. I started working on this line about a year ago and have put a lot of thought, time, and energy into them. I am thankful to have some healthy fry left, and am hopeful that one of them will have potential to continue the line.
I have started to make changes to my setup to prevent this from happening again.
This a video of my fry from the day before. They were just beginning to look like tiny adult bettas. They were coloring up in different ways and testing their flares. They would come up to greet me and would swim into my hands for food. I loved showing them off to visitors and letting them experience the tiny angry joys that they are. They are very missed.
Aquashella was a blast! There were so many beautiful fish, plants, and art. I was also lucky enough to run into Taylor with Simply Betta and Cory from Aquarium Co-Op ! I am looking forward to going next year as a vendor :D

I can also meet in Dallas this upcoming week at Aquashella!
Giant Yellow Koi Update! (12 Weeks old)
I am finally starting to get some marbles 😃 I was getting worried I would only have solid blue fry from this spawn. Previous fry from this line start turning cello around 6-8 weeks old, but these guys waited until 12 weeks!
Their development will continue to be a mystery to me, but I am just happy to see their colors changing as I pretty much only wanted yellow based koi out of them.
This week I separated out the males into their own 5gs, though I am not completely confident on how well I've gendered them. So far I have 12 females, 8 males, and 3 tinies that I moved into my dumbo spawn to grow out with.
Candy Dumbo Spawn Update!
I had 3 successful spawns with my marble dumbo bettas in the last month. My original pairings failed, so I mixed and matched until I I figured out which bettas were compatible with each other.
I currently have about 300 fry from the first two spawns, and roughly 25 from the 3rd. I combined the first two spawns into a 30g in the hopes that the larger fry will naturally cull down the smaller and weaker ones by eating them. (300 is a lot more then I'd like to take to adulthood) I'll be keeping the fry from the 3rd pair, Galaxy x Star, separated because I would like to bring as many as possible to adulthood.
You can read more about the spawning process here - https://www.beasbettas.com/my-spawns/F2CD
These cuties had a small, but successful spawn this week!
Male: Nebula the Blue Marble Dumbo Halfmoon
Female: Celeste the Nemo Koi Dumbo Halfmoon
Celeste is from my October Dumbo Pairing. She was one of three fry who met my goals for the spawn, and is by far my favorite. I am hoping with this pairing that I will get a few more long finned Koi Dumbos. Both of them carry butterfly genes so I do think that will be a majority of the fry, but hopefully the other colors will shine through ^_^
Since this was both of their first pairing, they did not do a good job getting eggs in the nest. Only a handful of fry hatched so I'll most likely give them another try in a month or so :)
Currently conditioning these cuties for spawning 😳
First pair - Galaxy and Celeste the Marble Halfmoon Dumbos. Celeste is from my F1 Dumbo spawn last year!
Second pair - Amethyst the Pink Dalmatian from my Red Marble spawn last year, and Tourmaline the Pink Butterfly.
I am hoping to spawn them simultaneously and let them grow up together!
The girls love worm day 💛
3 months old ❤️
I have a bunch of fun colors growing together here!
They are getting moved to the pond this weekend to encourage more growth!
