‼️ Once again, THE WAKE COUNTY ANIMAL CENTER IS CRITICALLY FULL. ‼️

After taking in almost 150 animals over the last three days (with only 55 adoptions, 12 reclaims, and 7 transfers to Rescue Partners), there are only two cat kennels, five dog kennels, and zero rabbit enclosures left in the building.

We have over SIX HUNDRED animals in our care (222 on the adoption floor, another 134 in the back of the Center, and an additional 279 in foster homes), taking up kennels and other life-saving spaces.

To add to this crisis, Independence Day is one of the highest-intake times of the year and we desperately need to make room for incoming animals who will escape their homes and go missing over the next sixteen days. As the ONLY animal welfare organization in Wake County who is an active partner with all five Animal Service jurisdictions, we must have space for these animals.

Since we are so dangerously close to euthanizing healthy, adoptable animals to make space, and we are begging for help with the following:

ADOPT - if you or anyone you know are looking to adopt, NOW IS THE TIME. Starting today, through Sunday, July 7th, we will be waiving the adoption fees for all adoptable animals in our building. All other adoption restrictions and policies apply. Check out our adoptable pets at pets.wake.gov

REUNITE - if you know someone whose pet is missing, make sure they are checking the adoption gallery - pets.wake.gov - multiple times per day and come check WCAC at least once every other day. As the designated stray-intake facility for the entirety of Wake County, we must have room for incoming animals. Reuniting a lost pet with the family who loves them is another way to help us make space.

FOSTER - we need foster homes! Our fabulous Foster Coordinator has scheduled two Emergency Foster Orientations.

RESCUE - if you foster with a local rescue partner, please consider opening your home to help us avoid the euthanasia of these beautiful and deserving animals. Encourage your rescue's leadership to save a local life by transferring a dog from WCAC into their care.

Just a few minutes ago we got the notice from the Wake County Animal Center that they are FULL. This is a crisis, every county shelter surrounding us has made the same post in the last 12-48 hours.

All rescues have been contacted including our out of state ones. They are full. The news has been contacted. Plain and simple we need adopters for dogs and cats.

Ya'll, we may loose healthy adoptable animals b/c the shelter HAS to take strays and we simply have no room. Wake is the only shelter for the entire county.

I don't know what else to say at this point other than ....We need adopters.
The shelter is open 12-6pm everyday. Plenty of animals are already fixed and can go home right away to make space.
