We're proud to announce the COMPLETION of The Metropolitan at the Riverwalk, an exceptional multi-residential development in downtown Wilmington, NC! This project features 293 high-end residential units spread across over 335,000 SF and a six-story pre-cast parking deck, offering 488 parking spaces. Our President & CEO, Baker Glasgow, participated in a panel discussion yesterday with Gregg Sandreuter (HMPartnersLLC) and Denny Edwards (VisitRaleigh) at the Raleigh Chamber’s Annual Leadership Conference on Downtown Development Dynamics.

A big thank you to moderator KristenHess from HHArchitecture for leading a great conversation about Raleigh's downtown strengths—amazing restaurants, a thriving arts community, and top-notch entertainment/music venues. They also discussed challenges like the impact of remote work, the future of Red Hat Amphitheater, and the importance of improving public safety.

Our Raleigh division had a warm, sunny morning volunteering at the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. Together, we donated 21 hours of community service and harvested 70 pounds of fresh produce. The produce we harvested went to their onsite food distribution center where families experiencing food insecurities can select fresh items like tomatoes, squash, basil, cucumbers, lettuce, and green beans. Project Spotlight✨🏗️

Our team is making significant progress at our 3600 Grove project in Richmond’s Museum District! The project has hit important milestones, marked by the recent completion of the precast parking garage, which will provide 330 off-street parking spaces to the multi-family community. With the tower crane now on site, construction is moving forward, and the building will soon begin to take shape.

This six-story multi-family development offers 253 modern apartments in a mix of studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom layouts. Centrally located, it’s within walking distance of the lively Carytown and Scott’s Addition neighborhoods, providing easy access to shopping, dining, and entertainment. Residents will have access to incredible amenities, including a rooftop sky lounge and a pool courtyard, perfect for relaxation and socializing.

Thank you to the team for their ongoing efforts and hard work—and another big thank you to Metromont Corporation and Donley's for their exceptional support and success in managing the project’s logistical challenges.

Clancy & Theys had the honor of attending the Raleigh Chamber’s DEI Conference! This year’s theme, "The Focus is The Future," inspired us to reflect on the past, assess the present, and focus on advancing diversity, equity, and inclusivity.

Our involvement in these efforts is crucial for attracting top talent, building community, and strengthening our business ecosystem. As Ruth Bader Ginsburg said, “We will all profit from a more diverse, inclusive society, understanding, accommodating, even celebrating our differences, while pulling together for the common good.”

The conference, presented by the Triangle DEI Alliance, offered valuable tools to enhance DEI in our workplaces and beyond. We learned from insightful panels and sessions and had the honor of hearing from Matthew McCarthy, former CEO of Ben & Jerry’s. His insights highlighted the power of diverse perspectives in fostering creativity, innovation, and problem-solving.

Meet Nikki Edmonds, our Manager of Employee Experience and Engagement at Clancy & Theys!

Nikki has been a special part of the C&T family for over two years, bringing a spark that lights up our office and makes everyone feel seen and heard. Here’s her story:

"I like to tell this story to new hires, so I am glad you asked. I was on the fence about changing careers entirely and taking a shot at Clancy & Theys. It was Baker, our president, who told me over a cup of coffee that he simply needed someone to come and take care of the employees. Period. The president of five (now six) divisions wanted to ensure employees have everything they needed from a positive and inclusive work culture to the best benefits to the best career paths. Why would I not work for a company whose president puts the employees' needs first? Clancy & Theys is unlike any other employer I have worked for. I truly feel valued as a person first, from the top down. I know that I am part of a big family. I enjoy working in an environment that encourages creativity, problem-solving, and continuous improvement. Being challenged in my role and having the opportunity to contribute to innovative projects is fulfilling. I work to make the employee happy! How awesome is that?

I started my career at C&T only two short years ago. From the first day in the office, I was immersed in the welcoming Clancy culture. Everyone was so supportive and helpful. I remember feeling like I really "belonged" here at Clancy & Theys which is not normally felt so soon after beginning a new career. I love that Clancy is a fun, really fun atmosphere to work in. We all value each other in a way that shows in just about everything we do as a team. I love that we do business the right way by doing the right thing for everyone."

Stars and Stripes Soar on Site! 🇺🇸

The American flag proudly flies over the Colin G. and Nancy N. Campbell Archaeology Center project at The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. The crane, a recent addition to the project, has been flying the colors when not in use moving and erecting steel for the new building.

This world-class facility is currently under construction and, when completed, will provide much-needed space for the archeological research teams at Colonial Williamsburg to continue their work beyond the excavation site. It will also offer guests a unique experience to learn from the past. The 36,632 SF building will include state-of-the-art laboratories, classroom space, and modern equipment, as well as a separate public amenities structure, an outdoor teaching courtyard, and an entrance plaza.

Clancy & Theys' Virginia Division traded in their hard hats for baseball caps at the summer family picnic. Our team members and their families gathered for an afternoon at the Norfolk Tides game! It was a perfect day of relaxation, fun, and celebrating our fantastic team!

This summer, our interns in Raleigh had the amazing opportunity to volunteer for Tools4Schools, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing free classroom supplies for educators in Wake County. Tools4Schools' vision is "We are an independent nonprofit committed to improving public education and advocating for excellent educational opportunities for all students." Supporting such a mission is vital for the growth and development of our community. By volunteering, we help ensure that teachers have the resources they need to foster a positive learning environment. Together, we are empowering education, one tool at a time.

Spent a fulfilling Saturday at CORRAL Riding Academy with the C&T team! Together, we donated 51 hours tackling brush and tree removal, fixing shelter logic, completing barn siding, finishing a horse shelter roof, working on drywall, and mending fences. We had such a great time that we’ve committed to continuing our volunteer efforts a few times a year to support this deserving nonprofit. CORRAL is transforming a 100-acre farm into their second location, serving adolescent girls in high-risk situations with equine therapy and education. Learn more at https://corralriding.org

Summer is heating up, so it's the perfect time to reflect on some of the coastal projects that have shaped our legacy.

More than 20 years ago, we earned a reputation for delivering fast-track hospitality projects on time and within budget along the oceanfront in Virginia Beach—a reputation we are proud to uphold to this day. With a portfolio featuring over 50 hotel projects totaling more than 5,000,000 SF of new construction and renovations for leading hospitality brands, our history of excellence is undeniable.

Some of these notable oceanfront projects include:
Courtyard Marriott 37th Street – Virginia Beach, Virginia
This 12-story, 123,089 SF hotel with 160 rooms included 2,500 SF of meeting space, a full-service restaurant, an exercise facility, an indoor pool with a separate spa, and an outdoor pool with rock structures and a waterfall. Our team completed this entire project in just nine months.

Fairfield Inn Oceanfront – Virginia Beach, Virginia
This project included demolishing an existing four-story hotel and constructing a new 74,700 SF, nine-story hotel with 110 guest rooms, indoor pools, and a 200-space parking garage.

39th Street Holiday Inn – Virginia Beach, Virginia
This design-build project included extensive renovations to this seven-floor hotel. We improved the hotel's 238 guestrooms and suites with new VTAC, and upgrades to electrical, plumbing, and lighting. Hotel amenities included an outdoor water park, two restaurants with kitchens, an outdoor café, a home theatre, ballrooms, meeting rooms, and administrative spaces.

Our extensive experience in coastal construction, from Virginia Beach to the Outer Banks, has equipped us to handle the unique challenges these types of projects present. As we celebrate 75 years of excellence, we continue to build the future while honoring our legacy built on safety, stewardship, passion, and collaboration.

The City of Casselberry Police Department celebrated their official Ribbon Cutting ceremony this past Monday, marking a significant milestone. While utilizing the facility since Fall of 2023, the department deemed an official ribbon cutting essential. This project aimed to replace the outdated headquarters, emphasizing community engagement and enhancing security for both police personnel and the public. The new facility is designed to meet the current and future needs of the Casselberry Police Department. We look forward to the continued enjoyment of this new space by the Casselberry Police and Community!

A groundbreaking ceremony was held today for the Lenoir Community College New Aviation Center for Excellence (ACE). Designed by JKF Architecture, the project consists of a new 57,024 SF, 2-story aviation building located at the North Carolina Global TransPark in Kinston. The state-of the-art facility will offer aviation-related training and education, boasting an aircraft hangar, modern classrooms, and advanced maintenance laboratories. Clancy & Theys Construction Company is thrilled to bring this transformative project to life, paving the way for the future of aviation education!

From day one, their team has exhibited outstanding craftsmanship and a strong work ethic. Their ability to seamlessly integrate into our workflow and maintain high standards of quality has been impressive. Their innovative techniques and collaborative spirit have significantly contributed to the success of our projects.

Skanska USA and Clancy & Theys Construction Company (a Joint Venture) are hosting a virtual information session and pre-bid meeting for their upcoming Construction Manager at Risk project, Old Dominion University’s New Biology Building at 2 pm on Thursday, June 27.

The session will provide interested trade partners, vendors, and suppliers with pertinent information regarding this project. There will be an opportunity to discuss the prequalification procedures, bid package opportunities, and the Construction Manager at Risk process. The Skanska/Clancy & Theys team understands the importance of diverse participation, and welcomes SWaM trade partners, vendors, and suppliers to attend our event and participate in the bidding process.

On Father’s Day, to honor all the dads working alongside us daily, we offer them a larger audience for their best dad jokes. Meet Jake Leviner, Assistant Superintendent at Clancy & Theys! With us for two years, Jake has already made a significant impact, embodying the values that make Clancy & Theys a remarkable place to work.

Jake appreciates the exceptional team culture at Clancy, saying, "The reason why I'm at Clancy is simply because we have the best people. Having a project team that is able to disagree with each other, collaborate to a solution, and go home at the end of the day maintaining a healthy relationship is an important factor that determines a job's success. Clancy prides themselves on that culture and goes the extra mile to retain their employees."

One of Jake's favorite memories is when some of the guys banded together for a Friday fishing trip last fall. "We ended up catching over 100 Spanish Mackerel and got the chance to participate in some non-work-related team building. Little events like this are important to maintain relationships with the people you don't necessarily see every day."

Reflecting on his last project, The Metropolitan in downtown Wilmington, Jake proudly shares, "Achieving TCO in our first building was a huge win for us. We faced many challenges that were specific to the job in terms of logistics and new systems, but we embraced adversity, and the whole team was bought in to do whatever it took to get the job done."

Jake also highlights a fun tradition at the Wilmington office that boosts morale and brings a bit of levity to the workweek: "In the Wilmington office, every Friday during the spring/summer, we participate in a 'ritual' we call Hawaiian Shirt Friday. It's great for boosting morale; a lot of the subcontractors even buy into it. Our industry is known to be high stress, and I'm no psychologist, but one thing is for sure, it's a little bit harder to get worked up when everyone is sporting a floral t-shirt."

At Clancy & Theys, we believe in fostering a supportive environment where teamwork and camaraderie flourish. Jake's story is a testament to the incredible spirit that drives our success.

Flipping back over twenty years, we still find pride in constructing the NASA Operations Support Building at Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. Completed in 2007, this was a state-of-the-art office building with a structural steel frame and precast and aluminum curtain wall. The building houses over 1 million linear feet of Cat 6 cabling, which was an innovative feature at the time. The building is used for all pre-mission conferences and for viewing all launches. The building holds 960 office spaces, a 300-person mission conference center with an observation deck, and training rooms.

The project launched Clancy & Theys into the federal market sector and paved the way for a revitalized space program. Looking back at our project history, Clancy & Theys has constant reminders of where we started and where we aim to go.

Felton Grove High School in Apex, a new 2,223-student high school spanning 400,000 square feet, is making significant strides as it goes vertical in multiple areas of the project site. This development, part of the Wake County Public School System is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Clancy & Theys Construction Company team. Today marked a significant milestone in the project with a beam raising and flag ceremony. This event celebrated the progress achieved and the collaborative spirit of all parties involved. Our Virginia Division joined forces with the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Peninsula VA, raising an impressive $8,112! Together, the entire event raised $236,921 to support the American Cancer Society's mission in cancer research, patient care programs, and making a real difference in our community. It was incredible coming together to celebrate survivors, honor lost loved ones, and stand against cancer with our community. May the cure be with you!

Throughout Clancy & Theys’ 75-year history, we have proudly constructed over 250 faith-based projects, including over 70 sanctuaries and the 5th largest Cathedral in the US, The Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral. Our portfolio spans many different denominations and faiths, each with its own unique challenges, which we have consistently overcome with passion and collaboration. In our Charlotte Division, we are reflecting on our legacy, recognizing our faith-based project experience, and celebrating our exceptional achievements throughout our time in the Queen City.

Some standout projects in Charlotte are University City United Methodist Church, Caldwell Presbyterian Church Hearth, and Philadelphia United Methodist Church Sanctuary. These endeavors boast seating for 1,000 members and other amenities, such as classrooms, kitchens, multi-purpose rooms, and gymnasiums.

Houses of worship are one of the most impactful spaces for both the worshiper and the community alike. Our portfolio of faith-based projects embodies our passion for construction excellence.

Our company’s founder, Mr. E.I. Clancy, believed it was part of our responsibility to build churches and enrich our communities. Our first church project was rectory work at Our Lady of Lourdes in Raleigh, his own church. Now, construction for faith-based communities is a core market for Clancy & Theys.
