Last week, thanks to our exciting partnership with Echo, we attended an unforgettable event, Teen Farmer’s Market, that brought our community together. We had the opportunity to reach out and feed our neighbors delicious pork carnitas and vegetable carnitas tacos. The atmosphere was vibrant and enjoyable! Big thanks to the Burt’s Bees Foundation for the 2023 Food Access and Nutrition Grant! This Spring, our Garden team and volunteers installed a stormwater conveyance to reduce runoff and erosion at Geer Street Learning Garden. The conveyance was established with almost 200 native plants of nearly 40 different species to stabilize the soil and provide ecological benefits. Thank you to the @burtsbees Foundation for making this project possible! Together, we’re making our Durham community a more sustainable place to bee. 🐝 #durhamnc #burtsbees #community

Potluck & Compost Giveaway
Spring blooms and community thrives at our Potluck & Compost Giveaway! Nearly 60 neighbors joined in as we shared 100 bags of compost, generously provided by @compostnow 🌱 Neighbors, community partners, former interns, and Gardens For Everyone recipients all came out to enjoy the festivities and grab some compost on their way out! Thank you to all who came!

It was great wrapping up Advocacy Action Month with an Impact Tour at the Food Shuttle Farm. Representatives Julie von Haefen, Sarah Crawford, and Maria Cervania joined us for breakfast from our food truck - The Spinning Plate as well as for great conversations and a tour of our farm!

For kids going back to school this year, basic needs can be a bigger challenge than math or engineering. At 11 years old, Elijah is already looking forward to a career as a robotics engineer. “I want to build robots that can fix your car or help around the house.” Doing well in school, pursuing his passion for robotics, and being of help to his family are all important to Elijah. That’s one reason he’s thankful for the help of free school meals that keep him at his best. “When I’m hungry, I get tired or distracted. If I’m full, I’m ready for whatever happens.” Minus the help of school meals during summer and on weekends, Elijah’s family sometimes relies on the food bank. Children like him all over our state depend on the generosity of the community.
