Did you know that brakes can fall into one of three categories? Service brakes typically work using hydraulics and friction to slow or stop a vehicle in motion. Emergency and parking brakes are separate systems that work using cables.
Vehicle brakes are becoming more advanced. New options include electronic brakeforce distribution, which varies the brake force at each wheel according to load, and electric braking systems that dictate how much pressure is needed to make a stop.
The toughest brakes around aren't on the road—they're on the race track! 🏁 Formula One cars demand peak acceleration and deceleration, relying on brakes that handle extreme heat and stress. Built with cutting-edge braking systems, they excel under the most challenging conditions.
🚗 Your vehicle's braking system consists of three key components: brake pads, rotors, and brake fluid. The brake pads generate friction against the rotors to halt the vehicle, with the brake fluid facilitating the transfer of force from the brake pedal to the brake calipers for effective braking. Keep these parts in top condition for a safe ride!
Why should you have your vehicle's brake fluid changed periodically? Brake fluid can absorb water from the air. Over time, this makes the brake fluid less resistant to rust, other corrosion, and heat. That can damage vital parts of the brakes, which could lead to expensive repairs.
The discs (also called rotors) of your vehicle's braking system may seem simple enough--just a round flat piece of metal. However, they are actually made to exact standards and electronically monitored to work with your vehicle's ABS.
Pad or shoes? Disc brakes (those with rotors) have brake pads that make contact with the discs to stop the vehicle. Shoes are found on drum brakes. They make contact with the drum that's turning inside the wheel.
Here’s to freedom, fun, and a fantastic summer! Happy Independence Day! 🗽🇺🇸🎆
Anti-lock brakes work by detecting hard braking actions and pumping/releasing the brakes for you very quickly and repeatedly. This helps prevent uncontrolled skids and replaces the old practice of remembering to pump the brakes yourself in an emergency.
Check your cooling system fluids and other fluids to make sure they aren't low. The last thing you want is an overheated vehicle!
Your vehicle's brakes are designed to stop the automobile, but they don't work alone. The condition of your tires and their ability to gain traction to the road are also important.

In addition to checking the level of coolant fluid in your car, go the extra mile and inspect the state of the hoses and the coolant reservoir. Keep an eye out for leaks, especially at joints and connection points, such as where a hose connects to the engine block. Also, squeeze the hoses (when the engine is cool) every once in a while to make sure they feel firm and not excessively squishy or soft.
