I love a good looking wildlife thinning!

Emerald Ash Borer killed off almost all the mature ash trees in the Piedmont. However, I've seen a lot of juvenile ash trees coming back in the understory. Hoping that nature finds a balance and the ash trees can make a comeback.

Had so much rain, even the turtles are looking for high ground!

Unexpected rain cut the prescribed fire short, but the NCFS was still able to get some acres burned. With any luck, tomorrow will work out better.

Neat find in Rockingham County: small rock structure, looks like it is protecting the head of a spring.

Afternoon logging inspections. I don't recommend using this guy; low production, ignores buffer rules, and isn't insured.

Had fun with the DSLR today. Fall is reaching the Piedmont!

Spent an hour shooting two lines looking for this corner. Ended up finding it when I leaned against a tree and wondered what that lump was under my foot.

In the woods checking on a nice thinning job! With any luck I'll be in air conditioning before it gets too hot this afternoon.

Cruising some beautiful hardwood timber today!

This juvenile pine stand used to be so dense you couldn't see the forest floor. We conducted a pre- commercial thinning in early 2021. A year later, the residual crop trees have plenty of growing space and are taking off.

Drive almost 4 hours to inspect 668 acre property and when you get there, you're greeted by an extra 30 minutes of work to remove the fallen tree in front of the gate!

This property is listed for sale near Blowing Rock, NC. Gorgeous mountain views! www.tmmrealestate.com

New hire is very proficient at finding snakes and rodents. Trying to train her how to sniff out property corners, but that's taking a bit more work. Once we get that skill down we'll work on measuring edge trees on inventory plots.
