This Sunday, Oct 23, we’re on retreat! There will be no service at Church of the Good Shepherd but all are welcome to join us at 10:15 for worship at Camp Agape.

Last week and traveled to Tucson as the reps from RMC to train for accompaniment of Oak Flat, Indigenous land threatened by federal mining leases. They’ll return throughout the year to serve as a witness to the work of the people protecting their ancestral heritage

Today Andrew was baptized into Jesus and the Eno River and then helped preside over Communion, we ate together, Christina, Jordan, Seth, and Melissa joined the church, the children walked us to the riverside, and we sang a lot. It was a good day!

Thanks to our volunteers who put up signs to support HEART - a non-police crisis response unit in Raleigh. We’ll continue to show up to city council meetings and to support mental health care in our city!

Our service of baptism takes place on Sept 24 at 1015, starting with brunch and ending in the river. We meet at the Few’s Ford picnic shelter.

We are delighted to introduce Melissa Rogati as the new Children and Youth Ministry Coordinator at RMC! Melissa brings decades of ministry experience in St Thomas USVI and China before COVID brought her and her family back to the US.

In her spare time, Melissa continues to de-lawn their home in Durham, claiming as much of it for garden space as her landlord will allow. She’s an avid reader and enjoys painting and writing, with the hopes of one day publishing middle grade novels.

We’re so excited to affirm Melissa in this role!

Colombia to Ecuador to North Carolina | Anabaptist World Laura Mendoza, Juan Miguel Cruz and their two children were doing well in Colombia, except for persistent threats due to Cruz’s peace work. He was willing to die in Colombia for the cause of peace.

This summer Raleigh Mennonite is centering our common life on developing practices of faithfulness to God - the God who loves creation - through attentiveness to other creatures. As we face climate catastrophe, we recognize that our disconnection from the gift of earth is also disconnection from the Creator. This summer’s RMC Read is two books! Half the congregation is reading Jane Crow, a biography of Pauli Murray by Rosalind Rosenberg. The other half is reading Soil: The Story of a Black Mother’s Garden by @camilledungy . Head to your local bookstore and read along with us!

As part of our grant to study anti racist worship practices RMC is hosting a panel on the intersections and fractures in Mennonite Church USA. Join us for a discussion of the ways race and sexuality are utilized for division and the possibilities for mutual liberation in the church. RMCers from the anti-racism team went to DC to continue to learn from churches about how they are integrating anti-racist practices into worship, part of our Vital Worship grant.
