July is National ”Make a Difference to Children” month.

We strive to make a difference every day at SAFEchild but we could use your help to raise awareness. Raise to share how we offer resources that empower parents and caregivers to move toward healthy family relationships by breaking negative parenting patterns. And don't forget to remind families/individuals that it's a sign of strength to seek resources!

Here are some additional ways you can champion our cause:
- resources at safechildnc.org/donate/
- to prepare meals for our families who attend evening parenting/support groups.
- an event with your colleagues or loved ones to make comfort blankets for the children who visit our Advocacy Center.

Pediatric vehicular continues to be one of the leading causes of non-crash fatalities for children under 14 according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

As temperatures increase, here are some tips to remember to keep your little ones safe all !

1) Never leave children unattended in a vehicle.
2) Always “Look Before You Lock”! Make a habit of looking in the rear seats before leaving your vehicle.
3) Always lock your vehicle so that children cannot gain access on their own.

🌼🌸 Just as pollinator plants rely on bees, butterflies, and other creatures to thrive, children need care, guidance, and a supportive environment to flourish. Plant this in your garden to remind you of the children in our community finding new hope because of SAFEchild! 🌸🪻🌼

After touring our new building, all open house guests left with these words offered by SAFEchild. We hope everyone left feeling inspired and encouraged to stay connected through the shared goal of supporting all children. Let’s continue our mission beyond the open house!

SAFEchild is featured in the June issue of Wake Living Magazine. Thank you WAKE Living Magazine!
Child abuse prevention and intervention nonprofit SAFEchild wrapped up its Champion Our Children capital campaign after raising $11.1 million over two years, exceeding its $11 million goal. The funds went toward a new 20,000-square-foot facility that opened at 2841 Kidd Road in Raleigh in October, allowing the organization to expand its program offerings within Wake County.

Major donors included WakeMed Health & Hospitals, Wake County, the City of Raleigh, the Kim & Fielding Miller Family Foundation, the AJ Fletcher Foundation, the State Employees’ Credit Union Foundation, Fred and Annette Anderson and Family, and the Temple Sloan Family Foundation.

The SAFEchild Advocacy Center now provides services to 45 child victims of abuse each month, up from 30, and the wait time for an appointment at the center has decreased from six weeks to two weeks.

Volunteers have grown from 100 to 164, and SAFEchild now hosts 15 parent education and support groups each week, up from six.

“As Wake County continues to grow, so does the need for supportive family services,” said SAFEchild Executive Director Cristin DeRonja.

“We are thrilled to share our new home with our community and multiply the number of children and families we serve.”

SAFEchild provides its services at no cost. SAFEchildnc.org

Spring is the start of new beginnings and often MOVE is too. When moms come into MOVE, many are devastated, depleted and hopeless from the emotional and/or physical abuse they and their children have experienced. In addition to the information about parenting, MOVE focuses on helping mothers heal and start anew. This painting represents such a beginning. On the last night of MOVE in December, one of the moms presented her facilitator with this painting and shared that it was the first time that she had painted since her ordeal began. SAFEchild fosters safe places and new beginnings.

Our 2024 Blue Ribbon Gala was a week ago today - what a magically impactful evening it was!

A major highlight of the evening was a moving keynote speech from a SAFEchild dad whose child was treated at the SAFEchild Advocacy Center. He shared his family’s recovery from trauma to hope and healing thanks to the compassionate care they received from our staff.

Another highlight - incredibly generous support from our nearly 400 guests. We soared well beyond our fundraising goal of $500,000!

Many thanks to emcee, WRAL anchor and SAFEchild board member WRAL Ken Smithith; auctioneer Ben Farrell; and the many businesses and individuals who donated experiences, trips and other items for our auctions.

And a special thanks to all of YOU for always celebrating and supporting SAFEchild. You all are Blue Ribbon winners!
