Incident Update: Last night, 8/3/22, at 9:31 p.m., the Rancho Cucamonga Fire District was dispatched to a commercial fire at Cask'n Cleaver Steakhouse off of 9th St. and Lanyard Ct.

Cask'n Cleaver staff reported a burning smell beginning in the early afternoon. The burning smells persisted throughout the day, but they could not track where it was coming from. At the close of business, staff felt the smell of smoke was out of the ordinary and called 9-1-1.

Upon arrival, firefighters found light smoke in the area of an exhaust hood located above a stove but nothing further. A truck company followed up to provide roof ventilation to see if the fire extended to the business's roof. Firefighters continued to encounter smoke and had to open up the roof further in efforts to locate the source of the fire. It was determined the fire started behind the cooking stove area inside the wall. The cause is suspected to be the slow drying of the wood framing inside the wall over many years combined with the heat from the cooking appliances which started a slow smoldering fire. Firefighters fully extinguished the fire and prevented the fire from spreading throughout the restaurant.

We want to acknowledge the Cask'n Cleaver staff for listening to their intuition and calling 9-1-1. Had they not been proactive in calling 9-1-1, the outcome of this fire could have been drastically different. This is a great reminder to our entire Rancho Cucamonga Community that if something is out of the ordinary, listen to your intuition and call 9-1-1.
