Compassion Physical Therapy

Meet Sharon. She is a 14 year old girl who first came to physical therapy in February for an evaluation. When we met her she was non verbal and was leaning completely forward over a walker. She had no mechanism of injury and after careful evaluation, there was no structural reason why she was unable to stand up straight on walk without an assistance device. It seemed that her symptoms were psychological and possibly stemmed from emotional trauma. After a few sessions of therapy and encouraging her to walk straight, she began to make slow and steady progress. It was not until we returned home to the states when we received amazing news from our physical therapists that Sharon had begun to leave her room more and attend the art classes on site at the hospital. She eventually gained strength and confidence to stand up straight and now she is able to walk without an assistance device. We are so proud of her and the courage it took to make this change for herself.

Another success story from Kenya because of the wonderful work that is happening!

"This is Zacharia Chebet 77 years old. He has been our patient for almost six months. He came in with a stroke, making him paralyzed on the left side, unable to walk, sit, and do his activities of daily living. With physiotherapy, he has greatly improved, and he is independent. He now focuses more on the right upper extremity as he longs to be fully independent. Initially, he would do daily physiotherapy; however, with the remarkable improvement 👏 He comes once a week. His family is so happy that their father is well ...He always finishes the session with "Kongoi/ Asante/Thank you."

In this picture is Assa; a 5 year old boy with cerebral palsy.

"Assa was refered to us by a family friend who once visited our facility and was impressed with the manner in which she saw us handle another baby with similar condition.

Assa comes for therapy sessions twice weekly. Initially , therapy sessions used to be the boy's worst moments. He would start crying the moment they step into the hospital's gate all throughout the session and even on the way back as reported by the mother. Thanks to our friendly rehabilitation approach. Assa's face is always full of smiles and laughter during our sessions which has greatly helped him gain functions like sitting with minimum or no support and fine motor activities. The playful Tuesdays and Thursdays with uncle Loyd or auntie Ruth as he always calls us are always some of the best moments in our weekly schedule.

Thanks to Compassion Physiotherapy for supporting the Living Room Hospital physiotherapy and rehabilitation department which has enabled Assa to have a totally different experience of therapy and rehabilitation services. Help us pray for Assa his family and our therapy team as we walk through this journey of his rehabilitation."

Back in September, we sent an email about an endeavor to get us back in Kenya in October. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, we've had to push that trip back. We are officially going to Kenya February 17- February 24, 2024!

This trip is extensive in not only planning but also in ensuring we are bringing the supplies needed to help empower and educate our staff at this new location. Our itinerary includes a full week of non-stop patient care at the clinic and at homes of those that are unable to travel to see us.
