Shout out to @paflipbros for their fantastic teamwork at the W. Buttonwood Street job site! The roof, columns, and railings of the porch were in rough shape, and had been taken down. When PA Flip Bros arrived for their volunteer shift on Wednesday, they wasted no time getting everything loaded into the dumpster--which was no small task! Other jobs of the day included working on the deck of the porch, and putting up some framing at the back of the house. We appreciate all their hard work and enthusiasm!

When it was time to schedule our Women Build day, we knew our friends (and repeat volunteers) at M&T Bank would be up to the task. Before Wednesday, nobody on the team had ever installed insulation before. By the end of a single volunteer shift, they had fully insulated House #8 on Miltimore Street! We cannot thank them enough for their diligence and can-do attitudes🛠💪 Ready to schedule a group volunteer experience? Contact Eneida Powell at (610) 621-0011 or [email protected].

We are grateful to be able to help our friends at Opportunity House with their latest project, refreshing the playground at 2nd & Beech Streets. Last week, concrete was poured for the basketball court, as shown in the video. We can't wait to show pictures when the playground is complete! Habitat Berks is proud to partner with other local nonprofits, such as Opportunity House, to strengthen the community we serve. By providing our construction and renovation services at a reduced cost, our fellow charitable organizations are able to keep their financial focus on their missions. The funds we receive above labor and materials, in turn, help us to provide affordable housing and homeownership opportunities to hardworking families.

We enjoyed great weather and great company at the 5th Annual Run for Shelter this past Saturday. We're told this year's race had both its highest spoonsorships AND largest number of perticipants ever! Thank you to the event sponsors, runners, and the fantastic team at Reading-Berks Association of REALTORS® (R-BAR) who make this event a success each year. We deeply appreciate the enduring support of our friends at R-BAR, who support Habitat Berks throughout the year in so many ways.

Our construction team and volunteers took advantage of yesterday's sunny skies to work on an important outdoor task-- equipment pads for Miltimore Street houses 7 & 8.

Thank you to the wonderful volunteers from Santander who assisted at the Miltimore Street job site this week. They got right to work, insulating the bedrooms in House #7 like pros! This is such an important part of the process, and they made a huge impact in just a few hours. Is your team looking for a great way to give back? We have group volunteer opportunities available--contact Eneida Powell at 610.621.0011 to schedule🛠🏠

It's hard to be believe that we're working on houses 7 & 8 on Miltimore Street! The framing for these houses were assembled and donated by our friends at Bethel Hill United Methodist Church. We are always touched by the messages left for the future homeowners by the volunteers. Such a nice way to fill the house with love before it's even occupied ❤ Thanks to Bethel Hill UMC for all the support of Habitat and Habitat families!

WOW--kudos to the volunteer team from Walmart Temple for their amazing work on W. Buttonwood Street! From mixing and pouring concrete (and then unloading more!), to putting up framework in two bedrooms--they can do it all! This team picked up their new skills very quickly, and we are so grateful for their efforts. **ReStore shoppers may recognize one of our regular ReStore volunteers, who came to the job site for a change of pace 🔨🏠 🫶Ready to schedule a group volunteer experience? Contact Eneida at (610) 621-0011 or [email protected]. Volunteers must be 18+, no experience necessary.

Shout out to the volunteer group from GAI-TRONICS for lending a hand at the W. Buttonwood Street house yesterday. In addition to studding out a wall and removing window casings, volunteers also assisted in pouring concrete in the basement. We appreciate all their hard work!

A huge thank you to the two volunteer groups from Penske who helped at the ReStore last week. It's not every day that volunteer groups bring their own equipment, but this team was ready to get the job done! They went straight to work, and had removed a huge section of old, broken tiles by the end of the day. We are so grateful for the enduring support of our friends at Penske, who regularly donate time and resources to assist with the mission of Habitat Berks!

Two weeks ago, we shared an update on our W. Buttonwood Street renovation. The new stairs have since been installed, making the final goal much clearer--even at this stage. Not only were the original staircases replaced with wider, safer versions, but their direction was changed as well. This allows for multiple improvements to the overall floor plan, which the future owners are sure to appreciate. On the first floor, moving the stairs added much-needed space to the living room. The 2nd floor originally held the primary bedroom and a walk-through bedroom, with the bathroom situated at the rear of the house. When complete, the bathroom willl be accessed by a center hallway, and both bedrooms will be private. The 3rd floor has been converted from two small rooms to a large primary bedroom--which will boast two large closets! We are so grateful for the supporters and volunteers who make projects like this possible. Whether you donate your time, resources, or ReStore items, you are making a difference in the lives of hardworking families in our community.❤️
