Habitat Berks ReStore had a busy week with volunteer groups! Our last group of volunteers this week were employees from Reading Hospital, who gave their time on Thursday, July 11th. Thank you to Tomasina Peterson and Hortencia Castillo for being part of our ReStore by helping prepare items to be placed in our storefront. Eneida Powell, Habitat's Director of Family Services, and Mark Wallace, Director of ReStore Operations were on hand to welcome our volunteers to the ReStore. The time spent at the ReStore was truly appreciated!!!

On July 9, 2024, members of the Bethel Hill United Methodist Church, in Lansdale, took another ride down to Reading to volunteer their time at our Habitat ReStore. Habitat has been truly blessed to have this congregation become a big part of our Habitat family. Bethel Hill built and delivered the framing for houses 3 and 4, and 7 and 8 on Miltimore Street, and on Tuesday, they came down to volunteer at our ReStore....our thanks to: Tallie Smink, Cailin Halfpenny, Maddie Brown, Cheri Brown, Les Brown and Heather Smink. These volunteers made taking up tile from our ReStore floor fun!!!

Homeowners on Miltimore Street are excited to see the arrival of a much-coveted amenity in city living--off street parking! Curb cuts and parking pads were recently added for use by residents of three Miltimore Street homes; more are in the works. There is still a lot of work to be done, but we're getting closer to the finish line each day!

Thanks to the energetic team of volunteers from UGI Utilities, Inc., who volunteered at House #6 on Miltimore Street! They didn't seem to mind the heat as they painted the house, preparing it for the next phase. We are so appreciative of their efforts and positivity!

Our Story

Habitat for Humanity of Berks County (HFHBC) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization that believes all people deserve a decent life and the power to build their own futures. HFHBC exists to create affordable homeownership opportunities for moderate income families. Families who purchase Habitat for Humanity homes must contribute 300 hours of “sweat-equity.” We rely on volunteers and families contributing sweat-equity for the “un-skilled” labor needed to build the homes. Working in this way, we believe we provide families a “hand-up” rather than a “hand-out,” while also providing a way for good people to assist hard-working families in our community.
