DEADLINE APPROACHING ⌛ There are just two weeks left to submit to our annual member exhibition! The deadline is September 16th.

The theme is Terra Incognita (An Unknown Land). This show asks the artist: What is the Terra Incognita or unknown within your art practice? Is this a particular subject, approach, aspect of method or process, or theme that no matter how many times you’ve contemplated and addressed it may still remain somewhat or completely elusive, yet is always worth considering?

We encourage artists to interpret the theme as it relates to existing pieces. Terra Incognita will be on view at Red Bank's The Oyster Point Hotel from November 1 - December 2, with an opening cocktail reception on November 1 from 6-8pm.

Contemplating a submission to our current call for entries? The theme for this year's Monmouth Arts member exhibit, Terra Incognita (An Unknown Land), may be more open ended than you think. We challenge artists to consider works in their collection that may be from any part of their practice that typifies the theme. We offer these images for inspiration and interpretation: Joseph Borzotta's "The Cold Walk," Tara Collins's "Breaking the Habit," and Bonnie Ambrosia's "Sunset River."

What is your Terra Incognita? Is there a particular subject, approach, aspect of process that no matter how many times you’ve addressed it may still remain elusive, yet is always worth considering?

Deadline to submit is September 16th. Visit our website for guidelines and more information https://bit.ly/2yM0B0A

Please join us for the opening reception of Ilene Hinden’s MISALIGNED exhibition on Friday, August 2nd from 5:30-8:00. Ilene is the third Monmouth Arts member artist to show their work at our ArtSpace gallery in Red Bank.

Ilene’s first solo show features works based on her experimentation with the interaction between traditional fine art mediums and digital artifacts. This exploration inspired her to create beautiful new works of art, each symbolizing how beautiful things can emerge when life does not align. Ilene’s company, Postdigital Ink, collaborated with Artistscent (her sister’s family company), to produce a line of candles custom scented and designed to match three of her artworks.

MISALIGNED. Opening Friday 8.2.24, 5:30-8:00, with exhibition on view 8.2.24 through 9.29.24.

In the latest installment of our ArtZine, we highlight the AP'N3 film challenge that aims to capture the creative spirit of Asbury Park. Filmmakers are given four requirements as they film, edit and produce their three-minute short across a three-week period in August. We sat down with Nancy Sabino, the co-executive director of the challenge and former co-owner of The Showroom Cinema to discuss how the challenge came to be, the importance of creating local cinema in Monmouth County and her enthusiasm for the filmmaking community in the state.

We’re thrilled to announce the completion of a new mural at the Asbury Park Boys & Girls Club. Inspired by the Club’s children and artwork they created to represent what “calm” looks and feels like, the colorful mural has transformed the Club’s “Chill Zone,” a place in the Club where youth can take a break, have a quiet moment, or chat with the Club’s caring and dedicated staff. Muralist Liam McWilliams, through his company 4am Somewhere, worked with students to gather their ideas and then installed the mural in time to be unveiled for this year’s busy summer camp season.

The mural project, funded by a grant from the Mary Owen Borden Foundation, is part of Monmouth Arts’ ongoing Creative Expressions Arts & Wellness Program, which uses the arts to address the rise in stress and anxiety in Monmouth County youth. We are grateful to the Foundation, Liam McWilliams, and everyone at the Boys & Girls Club for this opportunity to enrich this important space for youth.

Monmouth Arts invites the creative community of Monmouth County to submit works that explore the theme of Terra Incognita (An Unknown Land) as part of our annual member exhibition, to be held at the The Oyster Point Hotel in Red Bank, November 1 - December 2, 2024. The deadline to submit is September 16, 2024.

The most exciting and satisfying parts of a work of art for an artist are generally the beginning (spark of the idea), and the end (the work is complete). Within the middle of an artwork is where the artist most often encounters the unknown. Intuition, risk-taking, tried and true methods, and an adventurous and intrepid nature get the artist through the unknown to the end.

This show asks the artist: What is the Terra Incognita or unknown within your art practice? Is this a particular subject, approach, aspect of method or process, or theme that no matter how many times you’ve contemplated and addressed it may still remain somewhat or completely elusive, yet is always worth considering?

Terra Incognita will be guest curated by George Bates, a globally recognized artist within public art, fine art, and private collector commissions.

Monmouth Arts is pleased to be showcasing this year’s group exhibit in the Oyster Point Hotel on the Navesink River in Red Bank. The Oyster Point is one of Monmouth County’s most celebrated venues for art and gatherings, featuring exhibits and an innovative artist residency program.

The Monmouth Arts annual member exhibit – now in its seventh year – is named for Dr. Charles Sills, who was a painter, sculptor, collector, and supporter of the arts.

Artists interested in submitting to Terra Incognita must be current members of Monmouth Arts and agree to the exhibition guidelines. Artists who would like to become new members and submit may use the code TERRA to receive $10 off the $40 artist membership rate. Please visit this link for more details --> https://bit.ly/2yM0B0A

Monmouth Arts is thrilled to announce Janet Felton as our next artist to showcase their artwork this year at our new community event space, ArtSpace.

The pieces in Tidal Reflections are the result of Janet Felton’s observations of coastal life, both from her home on the Navesink River as well as where she spends her summers on the northern coast of Spain. Having spent her career as a graphic designer, Janet is drawn to the simple shapes of boats as they bob and sway atop the ever changing patterns and reflections of the water. There is beauty in that contrast. Through her work, Janet challenges herself to portray the calmness as well and the vibrant energy of these elements, both rigid and fluid.

Janet Felton earned her BFA from Arcadia University in Pennsylvania and went on to a career in graphic design; she is also a ceramic artist. It wasn’t until the COVID-19 lockdown of 2020 that Janet began to paint. Since then she has shown at The West Windsor Arts Council in Princeton Junction and has had solo exhibitions in Castropol, Spain in 2022 and in Ribadeo, Spain in 2023. A number of her paintings have also been exhibited at Beauregard Gallery in Rumson.

TIDAL REFLECTIONS. Opening Thursday 6.6.24, 5:30-8:00, with exhibit on display 6.6-6.21. Link for more info--> https://bit.ly/3R0cUyb
