But I’d be lying if I said we didn’t feel more pressure to produce the best braids we can as we not only understand the investment for professional photos but know the portraits usually end up front and center, as they are intended! As a professional braider we always look at the braids, much like a rider will critique the rider, position etc. We are instantly drawn to the braids. If not done to perfection they can be a distraction to a beautiful portrait.

Of course we want to give you the best work we can produced every time. But portraits bring a heightened sense of pressure to produce but we love it all the same!

Please be cautious and stay vigilant with your horses and yourself! Heat exhaustion 🥵 is no joke and a great sweating horses can develop Anhidrosis overnight.

Hydrate. Electrolytes. Sunscreen. Repeat!

This is what happens when they are left in for days on end and turned out. The pull on these guys is incredible (ever take a tight pony tail out and feel your scalp DROP?) which not only hurts, it damages the hair shafts, roots, scalp, and even causes fascia trauma to the topline muscles especially in the neck. Horses have the ability to remember pain and this makes us Braiders cry that they are uncomfortable, the hair gets damaged for next braids, and the horse may or may not hate us when he remembers next braiding.

It is not trivial. It is not “not a big deal” it is an astronomical deal!!!! If you cannot or don’t want to take them out, please PLEASESESESESEEEE arrange for someone to AS SOON AS the event you need them for is over.

As a braider I do my best to braid my clients as close to show time as possible because I know they’ll likely be in for a hot minute. Horses’ comfort and wellbeing are at the forefront of my personal commitment to my profession and FIRSTLY to the animal. Please put them first too. This IS and needs to be YOUR PRIORITY!!!!!
