Happy National School Counseling Week!! Help us celebrate our School Counselor, Laura Roff Ingalls
For her outstanding work in school counseling, Laura Ingalls of SCOE Student Programs has been named the 2024 School Counselors of the Year for Shasta County. The counselors were selected in conjunction with National School Counselors Week, which runs through February 10. These annual awards are selected from nominations submitted by school administrators. “It is remarkable the great work led by school counselors supporting students with academic, behavioral, and study skills, as well as college/career readiness so that they graduate prepared for their future,” said Shasta County Schools Superintendent Judy Flores.
We are so proud!!
Avyonnah Soukkeo-Harris is one of our Every Student Succeeding honorees. Avyonnah moved to Shasta County Independent Study after experiencing bullying and fighting at a comprehensive high school campus. She’s now a successful student who stops bullying when she sees it, helps the students with special needs at Excel Academy, and has joined a dance class. She has transformed into a mature, self-assured, patient person who is on track to graduate from Independent Study and the Shasta School of Cosmetology after passing her licensing exams in June 2024.
Overcomer. Resilient. Hard worker. Inspiring. Exceptional. Hopeful. Remarkable. Those are some of the words that described the 20 inspirational youth honored today at the 7th annual Every Student Succeeding Recognition Luncheon. This event honors Shasta County students who have overcome significant obstacles to find success in school. It is presented by the Shasta County Office of Education and the Association of California School Administrators - Shasta County Chapter. Attendance Matters!!
It can feel like the school year passes so quickly; it can be easy to lose track of absences. Mark absences on your family calendar so everyone is aware, and strive for less than two absences per month. Students with regular attendance are far more likely to meet or exceed expected academic growth, and do not have the added burden of catching up.
