Katie Mick Photography
Hey! My name is Katie & I am a Wedding Photographer based in the crazy beautiful Bay Area!
It’s looking like a beautiful Thursday to get these two married 🤩
Follow along today, I’ll be sharing the behind the scenes as Sarah & Tim’s day unfolds in the stories today 🫶
Happy Thanksgiving from my little family to yours 🫶 I’m beyond grateful for the incredible clients I’ve had the privilege of serving over these last 6 years of being in business, and I can’t wait to meet all of my 2024 couples so soon! I hope you’re all in a warm house with the yummiest food & all of the people you love today 🤍
Film wedding photography is for you if…
🎞️ You truly want to FEEL your photos.
Film has a beautiful way of bringing your photos to life. There is an unparalleled nostalgia that film photography brings to the table.
For the couples who are totally in their feels about each & every detail of their wedding- Film is 100% for you.
🌹 Film is soft & romantic.
While your digital images will be beautiful no doubt- Film brings a different dimension to the moments we capture together.
The style of film is a bit softer than high-quality digital images where you can pixel peep every little imperfection. The softness of film can also give your images a romantic vibe, which is perfect for wedding days.
🥂 It’s fun & always a surprise.
A key difference with film photography is that there is no preview or culling like there is with digital. With film, you can’t snap 10 photos of the same shot, pick 1 favorite, and delete the rest.
The surprise of what comes back is one of my favorite parts of film. There is so much emotion in the anticipation of waiting for the film rolls to be processed + I love the perfectly imperfect photos that we create with the inclusion of film photography.
Film Photography is now available as an add-on for weddings & sessions. If you’ve already booked & are interested, please email me via your client portal. If you are interested in booking me, reach out via my website contact form. 🫶
& The newest addition to the KMphoto services is…
FILM PHOTOGRAPHY 🎞️🍾
🥂 What does this mean?
Any 2024 couple can add film photography to their wedding day coverage or photo session. You’ll still receive a full online gallery of high-resolution, digital images, BUT you’ll also receive film photos back as well.
📷 Why would we want film?
Call me bias, call me trendy- I think film adds an entirely different dimension to the documentation of your wedding day.
It’s imperfectly perfect. It’s as real & raw as you can capture a moment. It’s nostalgic & timeless.
In my opinion, moments captured on film are pretty priceless & I’m so excited to open up this new service to my couples who want a little extra emotion in their captured moments. 🫶
In case you were wondering, this is what it looks like to marry your best friend of 15 years 🥹🫶🤍

Yesterday we did “Things I WON’T do as your wedding photographer,” so naturally I have to share the things I promise to do as your wedding photographer today. 🤍
01. I won’t forget the details.
In my opinion, the details are a key piece to memorializing your wedding day. As a 2023 bride myself, I know how much care goes into each decision & it shows in your details. I will always capture the small parts of your day. 🫶
02. Help you feel comfortable in front of the camera.
I will always help you pose naturally & effortlessly for your wedding day portraits! This is one of the best parts of the day because of the uninterrupted alone time you have together (with me & potentially a videographer of course).
I promise to give you prompts that let you relish in that alone time together, while also making sure you get a variety of candid & more posed wedding day portraits. 🤝
03. Give advice on your timeline.
The timeline can feel like such a daunting task, but it’s actually pretty easy to get started. Here’s a freebie & where I usually start-
Start in the middle. 🫢
Figure out what time sunset is on your wedding date at your wedding venue location. This is step #1 to get started on a wedding day timeline because you can’t set a ceremony time without knowing what time the sun sets. 🌅
Happy wedding weekend to these two! 🥂 Can’t wait to photograph what I’m sure will be a beautiful wedding day tomorrow for S + J.
Just look at how they styled their engagement session. 🥹
Thoughts from your favorite documentary style wedding photographer on how to capture those sweet, candid wedding photos 🥂
Jane + Steve's day is the perfect example of doing whatever the f you want on your wedding day. From forgoing the traditional wedding party, to walking dancing down the aisle to Lil Wayne. These two did exactly what felt right to them. The weather was perfect, the decor was beautiful and timeless & it was so so fun. Obsessed with how these photos turned out! Congrats you two 🫶

There’s so many things in life we take for granted.. while it’s nowhere near perfect, sometimes it’s easy to forget the privileges and rights we all have simply by living in this country.
When Josie and Sangeun reached out to me earlier this year & shared their story with me, I knew it was a wedding I wanted to be a part of…
See, Josie + Sangeun live together in South Korea, where gay marriage still isn’t legalized. They’ve been together for over 7 years and their love and bond is something straight out of a movie, but despite how beautiful their connection is, the place they call home denies them the ability to make their love official.
However, their countries inability to recognize their love for each other didn’t stop them!
Josie and Sangeun flew to the US last week and got married amongst some of the most beautiful scenery our country has to offer in Yosemite. Their favorite people flew from all around the world to celebrate with them & affirm their love for each other.
I’m case you needed the reminder, despite every obstacle you’re experiencing in your life right now…
Love wins, always 🏳️🌈🤍

Reasons I recommend my couples hire a day-of-coordinator if they aren’t using a full-service wedding planner. 👆

Yesterday's wedding at the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel was as beautiful as could be, and now today I get to prep for this weekend's wedding with these two lovebirds in San Francisco. 🌁
You can find me in the editing cave (AKA the comfy, cozy couch) resting today, working on yesterday's sneak peeks, and reenergizing for tomorrow. Can't wait to see you two again in SF 🤩🎉
Happy wedding day Victoria & Logan!
I'm so excited to be a part of their big day! I'm reminiscing on their vibey downtown engagement shoot as I prepare to photograph their wedding today in Sacramento. 🥂
I love a weekday wedding, anyone else? 🙋♀️
Let's talk getting ready photos 👇️
I love a fun matching robe photoshoot with the girlies in the morning, BUT...
This is something that often times is forgotten in the timeline. Here are things I would take into account, share with your photographer, & budget into your timeline if these specific and popular photo-ops are on your must-have list:
👉️ Matching robe photos
👉️ Popping the bubbly
👉️ First look with the bridesmaids
👉️ A gift or letter exchange with your S/O
👉️ Time for getting dressed (this takes a lot longer than you'd expect)
You don't want to overwhelm your timeline with every single photo opportunity, but remember that these things should be accounted for during the getting ready process so that your timeline doesn't run behind in the morning. 👏
Sneak peeks from this weekends wedding in Yosemite are out 😍
It rained and even hailed before their ceremony, but it cleared up with perfect timing for these two high school sweethearts to get married at the iconic Glacier Point inside Yosemite National Park.
After their ceremony, we went back to The Lodge at Two Moons for the most beautiful reception surrounded by the trees. It was so whimsical & quaint with just their closest family & friends. 🌲
I feel so lucky to have spent the day with these two and to have captured their wedding day. 🫶

Reasons to not skip the getting ready photos on your elopement day / intimate wedding day. 🫶
01. It helps tell the story. You’re gallery & album will feel so much more complete when you have the entire story from dawn till dusk right in front of your eyes.
02. It’s still an integral part of your day. It’s always fun to see what each other’s last few hours as a “single” unmarried person looked like! Emotions are just as high during this time compared to other parts of your day.
03. This is the time for important detail shots that help pull together your story- Your dress hanging in your hotel/air bnb, the florals, your rings, etc. The little details that complete your day are the ones that’ll slip your mind the easiest and are the most important to freeze in time. ✨
These two had an intimate wedding day with only a handful of their favorite people along the coastline and amongst the California redwoods. It was so special & I’m ecstatic to have captured the entire day from start to finish. 💕
This one's for the guys ⬇️
You deserve to feel good on your wedding day too! It is so important to have a well fitting, perfectly measured suit/tux, especially on such an important day. You want to look your best, but you also want to feel comfortable. No shade toward Men's Warehouse, but I think it's important to note that there are more options out there, so shop around! 🤵♂️
Here are some of my favorite options for suit & tux rentals:

Capturing the intricate details of your wedding day is just as important as the big moments. Here's my tips to help you prepare for your detail flat lay photos:
💫 Pre-Pick Your Items: The first step is selecting the items you want to include in your detail photos. This could include your wedding invitations, rings, shoes, bouquet, your wedding dress, or any other significant details.
🩷 Consider Color Coordination: Think about the color palette of your wedding and try to incorporate it into your flat lay if you purchase any ribbon or ring boxes. Remember this when designing invites as well- This will give your photos a cohesive look and feel.
⏳️ Allow Ample Time: Styling a flat lay takes time. Don't rush it. Allow plenty of time for your photographer to try different arrangements and take multiple shots. I typically like to have at least 45 minutes for detail photos right when arrive, before I begin taking the 'getting ready' photos.
🗒️ Add Personal Touches: Include personal items that tell your story. It could be a family heirloom, a handwritten note, or a shared favorite book.
✔️ Be Ready: It's great to have everything you want in your flat lay photos in one specific box so that I can get right to work when I arrive without asking you where specific items are.
Remember, these photos will be a beautiful reminder of all the thought and care you put into choosing every detail of your special day. Take some time to prepare and enjoy the process. 🫶
Dreaming of eloping but not quite sure where to start? Let's navigate through some exciting ideas I've come across during my late-night internet deep dives. ✨
Why not combine your elopement and honeymoon in one epic trip? Imagine tying the knot on a secluded beach and then kicking back for a week of tropical bliss. Or maybe you're thrill-seekers at heart? Rent a 4x4, explore off the beaten path, and exchange vows on top of a breathtaking mountain vista. ⛰️
Including your loved ones can still be a part of the plan- For example, you can ask them to them write letters filled with well wishes, which you can read on your special day if you decide to elope just the two of you! I'll be there to help capture all of the magical moments that can be shared with friends & family after your big day. 💌
As a destination elopement photographer, I'll help plan those little details that will make your day truly special and uniquely yours. 🫶
One last nugget of wisdom - don't forget to research the marriage laws in your dream elopement location. They can vary greatly, so save yourselves future stress by being prepared. 📄

PSA: You are allowed to get ready with your partner the day of your wedding. 🙌
I mean, heck, you can do whatever you want, but this is a wedding day tradition I love to see broken. 🤘
Chris & Stew spent their wedding day morning surrounded by their closest friends, family, and each other in one big house. The vibe was relaxed & love truly filled the air.
They helped each other get ready and were able to forego the pre-ceremony jitters that typically go along with the anticipation of awaiting the first time you see your partner at the alter. 👏
(p.s. they actually walked down the aisle together too, it was epic.)
Location, location, location. ⛰️
Where should you take your engagement photos? The perfect backdrop for your love story is a place that holds meaning for both of you. This could be the quaint coffee shop where your eyes first met, your favorite park where countless Sunday afternoons were spent, or perhaps the cozy corners of your home that have silently witnessed your love story unfold. These familiar surroundings will help you feel at ease, & let your natural chemistry radiate in front of the camera. Remember, the best photos are often born out of comfort and authenticity. 🫶
Brynn and Stan flew me to Colorado to do their engagement photos in Boulder. We got to hang out before their session, get coffee and walk around, then got dinner afterwards. They were super playful, energetic and fun- I feel like I could throw anything at them and they were down! I can't wait for them to get married next year in California. ✈️

As your photographer, I don't just capture your day - I'm here to help you plan it too. Creating a wedding day timeline might sound daunting, but trust me, it's key to ensuring a smooth, stress-free day. And guess what? I absolutely love helping my couples with this task!
Here are some tips to consider:
Start Early: Allow plenty of time for hair, makeup, and those unexpected last-minute tasks. ⏰
First Look: Planning a 'first look' photo? Schedule it at least an hour (if not two) before the ceremony. It's a beautiful moment you'll want to savor and it gives you the flexibility to take all of your bridal party + family photos before the ceremony as well.
Golden Hour: Keep in mind the sunset time. We'll want to capture those stunning golden hour shots! I like to budget 20-30 minutes during the reception for your couple's portraits so you can have the perfect lighting. 🌞
Buffer Time: Don't forget to build in buffers throughout your day for travel, relaxation, and unexpected moments. ⌛
Reception: Plan the main events (like the first dance, cake cutting) early in the reception so guests can fully enjoy the party afterward. 🎉
Remember, your timeline isn't just about keeping things on track - it's about making sure you can relax and truly enjoy every moment of your special day. Need help crafting your perfect wedding day timeline? I got you! 🫶
It's such an honor to have been asked to photograph Ben and Alyssa’s elopement surrounded by the California Redwoods. 🌲
Their love is so special & true, it was no surprise to anyone that they decided a big wedding just wasn't their style. After their intimate ceremony surrounded by the towering redwood trees, we explored the edge of the coastal cliffs and ran down to the beach. I LIVE for these style of wedding days- The perfect cross between an intimate wedding and a destination elopement.
Ben and Alyssa’s connection to each other is undeniable, and it was a privilege for me to witness them becoming one. ❤️🔥
The feeeeels that this wedding gives me!! Ugh 😍
The vibes, immaculate.
The couple, gorgeous.
The day, perfect.

Natalie + Gary’s day was easy, quaint, and they got to infuse their personality into every aspect of their day. They love kayaking together, so when they found out their venue had a little pond with a canoe they made sure to take a quick little spin together. It was so sweet to capture 🫶

Excited to share some of MY wedding photos with you guys!
Eli and I opted out on doing portraits on our wedding day, and instead met up with our amazing photographer 2 days later in the most beautiful spot to take our wedding portraits. This felt so so right for us. We were able to dedicate all of our time on our wedding day to hanging out with our family and friends & less time off taking photos. It was perfect!
1 month down, forever to go my love 💕

Soooo excited I can finally share these photos!
The biggest compliment I could ever receive is a previous client reaching out for me to capture more life events. Whether it’s pregnancy announcements, maternity photos, newborn photos + family. It’s the biggest honor to be able to capture these sweet moments year after year.
Congrats Claire + Pat! Can’t wait to see you two become parents 🫶🥹
This season has been all about reigniting my love for photography. When I picked up my first camera in 2017, I had no idea that by 2018 I’d have a fully booked year. I say this not to sound braggy, although hell yeah that was pretty awesome lol… but I never had time to explore photography as simply just a hobby. I’ve learned that my craft is better when I take time to enjoy it, rather then just profit from it.
This photoshoot yesterday with my bestie & her man last night was just what I needed. We created a mood board, bought some pizza & wine, grabbed my Polaroid camera and some flowers I had sitting around the house and headed out to the lake for some summer-lovin vibes. I also got a chance to practice with my film camera (tbd how those turned out 😂). It was everything I needed and more… here’s your sign to do the same if ya need it! 😘🍾
Zoe's smile is infectious, and I just feel like the world deserves to see it 🥹😍
