Orthodontic spacers are tiny rubber bands or metal rings placed between your teeth to create space for braces or other orthodontic treatments. They may feel a bit uncomfortable at first, but they play a crucial role in ensuring your teeth are properly aligned. These spacers are important because they allow enough room for braces or a palette expander to be placed accurately.
Happy Birthday, Jackie! π₯³π Your positivity, perseverance, and eagerness to learn inspire us every day. Weβre so grateful to have you on our team!
While braces and aligners are effective solutions for straightening your teeth, they may also elevate the risk of decalcification. To protect your dental health during treatment, it is essential to maintain a diligent oral hygiene routine that includes regular brushing and flossing. By doing so, youβll ensure a healthier smile that you can be proud of in the long run! π π¦·

Transformation Tuesday - Let's talk Phase One Treatment! π¦·
Phase One orthodontic treatment is often recommended for children to address specific dental issues early on, such as overcrowding, bite problems, or jaw alignment.
By intervening at a young age, we can guide the growth of the jaw and create a more favorable environment for permanent teeth to emerge. π
This proactive approach can lead to shorter treatment times and potentially reduce the need for more extensive procedures later on. β°
As we embrace the Back to School season this September, weβd like to take a moment to honor one of Dr. Charoenkul's esteemed former professors.
Dr. Melvin Moss is one of the leaders in the theories of bone growth and development. He was Dr. Charoenkul's anatomy professor and former dean of Columbia University Dental School. As Class President, Dr. Charoenkul would meet with Dr. Moss one-on-one to discuss class matters. Dr. C fondly remembers having tea with Dr. Moss and discussing sinus spaces in human anatomy in comparison with dinosaur anatomy. Dr. Moss always encouraged scientific thought and challenged his students.
The pH levels in our mouths play a crucial role in maintaining optimal oral health. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14, with 7 being neutral. A pH below 7 indicates acidity, while a pH above 7 indicates alkalinity. Our mouths naturally have a slightly acidic pH level, typically around 6.5 to 7.5, which is important for the functioning of enzymes and bacteria involved in digestion.
When we consume acidic foods and beverages, such as sugary treats and sodas, the pH level in our mouths drops (refer to the red zones in the 2nd photo), creating a more acidic environment. This acidity can lead to demineralization of tooth enamel, making our teeth more susceptible to decay and erosion. On the other hand, snacking on alkaline foods like fruits and vegetables can help neutralize acidity and raise the pH level in our mouths, promoting a healthier oral environment.
By choosing alkaline snacks over acidic ones, you can help maintain a more balanced pH in your mouth, reducing the risk of dental issues. Remember, a well-balanced diet and mindful snacking habits are essential for preserving your oral health and keeping your smile bright and healthy.
Dr. C is starting his vacation early today for National Relaxation Day! Next week we will be closed as we end our summer with some much needed family time. We will see everyone back in the office on Monday, August 26th. π
If you have an emergency please follow the instructions on our voicemail so we can accommodate your need. As a reminder, a broken bracket, loose wire, missing color tie, or missing separator are not emergencies unless they are causing pain.
Happy Fourth of July week! πΊπΈ (and Canada π¨π¦ Day today for our friends up north)
Our office is closed today, July 1st through next Monday, July 8th. We will return to regularly scheduled business hours on Tuesday, July 9th.
If you are a patient on record and have an emergency, please call our number and press 2 to explain your emergency and we will return your call as soon as possible.
As a reminder, a broken bracket, loose wire, missing color tie, or missing separator are not emergencies unless they are causing pain.
This month commemorates 20 years of Dr. Charoenkul's unwavering commitment to our community as both the owner and orthodontist of Lake Hills Orthodontics.
Throughout this time, he has not only expertly straightened teeth but also brought joy with his humor and infectious positivity. Dr. Charoenkul is truly a gem to be around, making every visit a delightful experience. If you see him, be sure to congratulate him!

1. Bring reusable bags to the grocery store to cut down on plastic use.
2. Opt for rechargeable batteries instead of disposable ones.
3. Support local farmers by choosing locally-grown produce, reducing transportation emissions.
Let's celebrate our beautiful Earth today and every day by embracing these sustainable alternatives. Together, we can create waves of change.
