This holiday season, make new traditions.
Sometimes, traditions can bring back nostalgic memories that are like salt in the wound while you are going through a divorce. Thankfully, instead of dwelling on old traditions, you can take the opportunity to create new traditions. Here are some things to be mindful of when starting a new tradition.
- Decide who you want to be involved
- Start with smaller rituals and traditions
- Remind yourself that change is good, healthy, and a natural part of life
- Think about the meanings behind new traditions
- Avoid too much self-critique
Whatever tradition you start, we wish you the best this holiday season!
If youâre going through a divorce this holiday season, focus on others.
Focusing on your kids, family members, and friends can take your mind off your own worries and troubles. It is a nice respite, even if only for a bit. Think about what you can do to bring joy to the people around youâyou might find it lifts your own spirits.

The holidays are a time of joy, giving, and spending time with loved ones.
Unfortunately, if you are in the midst of a divorce, the holidays can be a stressful and even depressing time. Throughout the holiday season, weâll be sharing coping strategies to implement as you navigate the holidays.
Our first is to learn to let go.
Let go of negative feelings. Let go of expectations. Enjoy the moment.
This is a common piece of great advice but always easier said than done.
Start checking in with yourself throughout the day to see how you are feeling. Take deep breaths and implement meditation and visualization practices to help you release pent-up feelings, breathe more deeply, and let go of stress.

November marks Military Family Appreciation Month.
At Divorce Lawyers for Men, we understand the unique challenges faced by military fathers and families navigating divorce. Throughout Military Family Appreciation Month, weâll be sharing info relevant to military dads and families navigating divorce. To kick it off, hereâs a brief overview of what you need to know about child custody as a military dad. To learn more, visit the Military Divorce section of divorcelawyersformen.com.
Fair visitation can be challenging for service members. If you are active duty military, your schedule can be unpredictable. You may not be able to pick your children up from school because of your military commitments. Just because you donât have a 9 to 5 schedule, it does not mean that you donât deserve full visitation with your children. Fight hard for a flexible schedule to make sure you can keep serving our country and spending time with your children on a regular basis.
Military fathers have a unique legal right in the state of Washington. As a service member, you can assign your visitation rights to another person while you are deployed. Washington law only provides this right to members of the military. This means that while you are away, your children will spend your visitation time with the person you designate. For example, this allows your mother, the childrenâs grandmother, to have your visitation while you are deployed.
To ensure your visitation assignment is respected and your children are spending time with the person you designated, you need a Washington lawyer experienced in Military divorce. If youâre ready to take the next step, click the link in our bio to get in touch with our experienced team.

We advise against bringing friends and family to court.
However, if your attorney approves of you bringing someone with you for moral support, limit it to one or two people. Then be sure that the person(s) with you are following all these rules and not undermining your case with a sloppy appearance or inappropriate behavior.
Remember, the saying "you are the company you keep" rings true in the courtroom.

How quickly can you get divorced in Washington?
The statutory mandatory waiting period for a divorce is 90 days after filing a petition with the court and serving the opposing party with the initial pleadings. If the parties are able to reach an agreement on all terms of the divorce (uncontested divorce), the court will grant the divorce after 90 days based on the agreement.
In a contested divorce, it is difficult to estimate how long a case will take to conclude. If the parties have not reached an agreement during the 90-day waiting period, the court will assign a trial date which is typically within one year. The parties are encouraged to continue to negotiate while waiting for the trial date. If an agreement is reached, the divorce can be granted before the trial. Most cases settle without a need for a trial.

Many people wonder what a no-fault divorce means.
It is a divorce in which neither person is required to, or allowed to, blame the other spouse for the breakdown of the marriage. The only basis for a no-fault divorce is âirreconcilable differenceâ or âirretrievable breakdown of marriage.â The court will grant the divorce, but will not assign blame. Marital misconduct is not considered by the court. Washington is a no-fault divorce state.
