Rock clean up today!
Alex is back!! A mountain lion has been spotted heading into the park around 5-6am several mornings this week, here carrying a meal. We don’t know when it heads out at night to hunt so definitely respect those park hours, I don’t think it would like to be interrupted
In case anyone is wondering why we put up the fence here’s a picture of all the glass my son and I picked up over an hour today
For your own safety, please do not come into the park when it is very windy. As we all know, trees are coming down with all the rain and wind, especially oak trees which have shallower roots. And never come in the park at night! Not only is it trespassing, it can be dangerous because of hazards and mountain lions. Please use common sense.

Attention Handley Rock lovers! We are resuming our regular park clean ups and would love your help. Saturday July 16th 9am-noon come with gloves and help pick up trash, broken glass, and clear out some dead wood in preparation for fire season. There will be coffee and bagels. Thanks!
A cat in a hurry apparently
Bobcat in the park Sunday night!
Last April we picked up this mountain lion in the park repeatedly
Today's Park visitors! Tomorrow's Rock climbers? Enjoy the day.
Thank you to everyone who came out last weekend and did an amazing job cleaning up Handley Rock Park! Special thanks to the volunteers from Bay Area Climbing Coalition and R.E.I. San Carlos store. You all rock! It was a great turnout and the results are beautiful. Enjoy the summer everyone.
It is with great sadness that we announce Bill Oldfield's passing. Bill & Bev Oldfield donated the property that is now Handley Rock Park. Bill sacrificed and worked to the end to keep the park open. Even the signs at the park were handmade by him. An avid rock climber Bill was often seen at the park doing everything from cleaning to climbing. We're sure the local rock climbing community is also mourning. Our hearts go out to the family. Bill & Bev's generosity will continue to inspire us as we carryon their legacy at Handley Rock Park. R.I.P. (Thank you for the picture Joan).
This is the only photo I could find of Bill at the Rock. RIP, Bill. Handley Rock was your baby.
Deer Santa... Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays to all. Wishing everyone all the best in 2018.
We have identified over 10 vandals in the last month. Names, address, license plates.... They paid hundreds of dollars, did community service, and got a rap. Just this week the sheriff's department is pressing hate-crime charges against 3 individuals who painted a sw****ka and hate speech on the Rock. Gotta say as saddened as we are, we're also resolute. And we're confused. What part of "SECURITY CAMERAS IN USE" don't people understand.
It was great to meet some members of the Bay Area Climbing Coalition today at the Park. Our page is the best way to stay current on the situation. Please know that climbers are a very welcomed presence at the park! We're sorry if the recent closure caused any confusion. Hopefully it never has to happen again. The Park is open now. Cheers. Happy climbing. And thank you climbers for helping keep the park safe and clean.
Frankly it sucks to have to keep posting stuff like this. But this morning at 1:30 a.m. a male was caught on cameras walking into the park through the south entrance. While exiting 5 minutes later at the north entrance walking up Handley Trail he decided to vandalize the signs and damage private property. Based on the video (of which we hope to get more from neighboring properties) the person wanted in connection with this is local, familiar with the property, and was probably intoxicated. (Although sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between that and stupid). Wearing dark pants, light colored / white long sleeve shirt & hat, dark hair, carrying a flashlight. Any information leading to the arrest and conviction of this individual will receive a $500 reward. Please repost, share, and post on Next Door. We are working hard to keep Handley Rock Park open to the public. With your help we caught 7 individuals responsible for the most recent graffiti vandalism!
We are pleased to announce that Handley Rock Park is reopened to the public. Thanks to the help of the community, some responsible parents, and one young man who confessed, we've cleaned up the graffiti. We ended up the the identities of several vandals. We applaud those who stepped forward to own what they did and then helped with the clean up. But it was a lot of work for all of us. And it cost a lot of time and money. Please be mindful that Handley Rock Park is only open to the public because we are able to abide by the rules set forth by the county. Those rules keep the park open and safe to all of us. Thank you for your support and understanding. Enjoy the summer.
We are very sorry to announce that the scheduled clean up for tomorrow has been canceled. Thank you for your support and we will reschedule in the near future. In the meantime the park is closed 24/7. As per the request and in cooperation with San Mateo County Sheriff's department there is a zero tolerance policy. Anyone in the park at anytime will be cited for trespassing. Thank you.
Please join us to clean up the graffiti that closed the park. Wednesday June 21st starting at 5:00. Until then please remember the Park is CLOSED to EVERYONE in cooperation with the San Mateo County Sheriff's Department. Thank you.
Please help us keep Handley Rock Park open to the public. If you live in the area or visit please like out FB page to stay informed. Thanks.
Sadly for the first time in Handley Rock Park's history the Park will be closed to the public tomorrow, Friday, June 9th, until further notice. Due to vandalism and graffiti the Park will now be subject to rotating closures enforced for all hours. 24/7.
Please remember that the park is private property. If you visit and are disappointed to see the park closed please DO NOT ENTER. In coordination with the San Mateo County Sheriff's department there needs to be a zero tolerance policy for the closures. It's the only practical way to manage it. You will be cited and we don't want anyone cited just for stopping by to enjoy the Park.
A $500 reward is offered for information leading the the arrest of anyone responsible for vandalizing the park. Witnesses have seen vandals both in cars and on foot.
Please spread the knowledge that the Park is fragile. Without respectful use it can go away. That would be really sad. Please help us keep Handley Rock Park open.
The San Mateo County Sheriff's department is extremely interested in the identities of these two individuals. We would like to ask them some questions. That's all. They were seen today attempting to enter the park at noon. They left rather quickly in a dark small Honda type sedan. The reward for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for defacing Handley Rock Park resulting in its closure to the public is now $1,000.

Photos from out 2017 Clean Up party! Thank you to everyone who made it possible and came out to help. The Park looks great!
Just some of the moments from this weekend's clean up party. Thank you to everyone who contributed and worked so hard. The results are stunning. The Park has never looked better. And those weeds this year! Whoa. It's going to be an intense fire season. Glad we're prepared. Thank you again to all the neighbors that came out to help.

Our annual clean up party is this Saturday, May 6th starting at 8:30. We hope you can come out and help keep Handley Rock Park open and safe. This is the fine work of our advance graffiti team! Well done and thank you!
Our annual Handley Rock Park Clean Up Party will be Saturday, May 6th starting at 8:30. The more people the merrier! Coffee & refreshments will be provided. Please grab a hat & gloves and join us in keeping the Park open and safe.
These three boys were caught red-handed spray painting graffiti on Handley Rock Park. There were multiple eye witnesses and two sheriffs chased after them. They got away through trails leading down to Sylvan. Any help in identifying them would be greatly appreciated. If you've visited the Handley Rock Park you know how bad the graffiti is lately. Our volunteers worked hard to clean the Rock 3 times last year. I'm sure everyone would appreciate seeing these 3 boys "clean up their mess" as my momma would say. PM if you know anything please.
Trick or Treat? A shocking incident at the Park today. Two belligerent young men who violated the use rules were eventually confronted by police. When the parent showed up he became even more belligerent and the situation escalated. One hour and six patrol cars later they were sent on their way. What's disturbing is they live in the area. It's incidents like this that are threats to keeping the Park open for everyone. Please respect the rules and the neighbors.
Ah yes! A picnic in the park. Happy Labor Day weekend one and all. Enjoy the great weather and good times. And please remember to help keep Handley Rock Park open to the public with no littering, graffiti, fires, or night time trespassing. Cheers and enjoy the holiday. You've worked hard for it!
Great family fun today at the Rock. This father & son were practicing rock climbing. Happy 4th everyone. Have a safe & fun holiday weekend.
The new fence is up! It was tremendous turn out for our annual clean up party this year. Thank you everyone who showed up or helped make it possible!
Please plan to join us for our annual clean-up party on Saturday, April 30th. 9:00. Thanks!
New signs are up at Handley Rock Park! The first item of new enhancements necessary to keep the park open for everyone. We have more to do and are looking for donations. Handley Rock Park Association is privately funded and is a 501(c3) organization. Your donation is tax deductible and will help ensure the Park continues to be open to the public. Please consider donating. Thank you!
